Vattenfall's portfolio has the potential of approximately 5000 MW for projects on land, under development or construction in its various markets.
Lighter weight wooden towers can be constructed in modules and assembled on site allowing higher towers to be built while still using normal access roads for transportation. Wooden designs also enable radical reductions in emissions by replacing emission-heavy material such as steel and concrete, according to the Vattefall release.

According to Modvion, wooden wind towers are cheaper to construct and lighter than steel towers and can be transported in smaller modules allowing towers to be taller and wider, and can extend longer vertically and operate in places where wind speeds are higher.
Modvion's pilot tower received €50,000 from the EU Horizon 2020 innovation fund and was constructed at a glued laminated timber factory owned by project partner and industrial wood specialist Moelven.
