SSE Renewables plans to begin with a project on the Arklow Bank in the Irish Sea off Co Wicklow, where it could initially assemble enough turbines to produce about 520MW of electricity by 2025.
SSE presently has 28 onshore wind farms generating 720MW of electricity, as well as
a gas-fired generator at Great Island, Co Wexford, and several smaller "peaking" plants used to back up renewable production. (Source: SSE Renewables, PR, Irish Times, 25 Feb., 2021) Contact: SSE Reewables, www.ssepd.co.uk, www.sse.com; Airtricity,

The project were first proposed in 2005 when it was presented to Shetland Island residents as a community-owned enterprise with the potential to earn them £37 million a year and to power roughly 500,000 homes.
With that in mind, the Shetland Islands Council (SIC) as developers faced accusations of conflicts of interest and transferred its share -- 50 pct of ownership -- to the Shetland Charitable Trust, which invested about £10 million in the project which
is now solely funded by Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE). (Source: SSE, The Herald, 12 Sept., 2020) Contact: Scottish and Southern Energy, www.ssepd.co.uk, SSE Renewables, www.sse.com

Dogger Bank Wind Farms is comprised of three offshore wind farm sites in the North Sea, totaling 3.6 GW -- Creyke Beck A (1.2GW), Creyke Beck B (1.2GW) and Teesside A (1.2GW). The three wind farms will make use of the world's most powerful turbine, GE's Haliade-X, and will be capable of generating sufficient power for over 4.5 million homes each year.
Jones Bros Civil Engineering, one of the UK's leading civil engineering contractors, headquartered in Ruthin, North Wales, has been awarded the contract to install the onshore cable infrastructure for the Creyke Beck A and Creyke Beck B sites.
The onshore infrastructure includes the installation of approximately 20 miles of electrical cables that will connect to the existing National Grid substation at Creyke Beck, Cottingham. The works will also involve completing bulk earthworks at the onshore HVDC convertor station locations in East Riding.
