NJ Offshore Wind Manufacturing Hub Underway (Ind. Report)

Following up on our 30 Dec, 2020 report, in the Garden State, Ocean Winds and steel fabricator EEW have broken ground for the EEW monopole wind tower manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County, New Jersey.

The state committed $250 million to the two-building facility that will manufacture monopiles to supply Orsetd and PSEG's 1,100 MW Ocean Wind farm off the coast of southern New Jersey. When fully operational, Ocean Wind will generate sufficient energy 500,000 New Jersey homes. Ocean Winds Targeting Expansion Into Ireland (Int'l. Report)

EDP Renewables and Engie joint venture company Ocean Winds reports it is evaluating the expansion of its global offshore wind portfolio -- 1.5 GW under construction and 4 GW in development -- to include a potential offshore wind farm 8 miles from the shore at County Wicklow, Ireland. To that end Ocean Winds has established Cailleach Offshore Wind Farm based in Edinburgh as a project delivery company.

In the UK, Ocean Winds will soon complete the 100-turbine, 950MW Moray East offshore wind farm in the Moray Firth. When fully operational in 2022, the project is expected to generate sufficient energy for roughly 950,000 homes. It is being developed by Moray Offshore Windfarm East, which is majority owned by Ocean Winds with Diamond Green and China Three Gorges holding minority positions. Greek Floating Offshore Wind Farm Plan Announced (Int'l.)

Madrid-headquartered Ocean Winds, a 50/50 joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie, reports inking a collaboration agreement with Athens-headquartered headquartered renewable energy developer Terna Energy SA to co-develop a roughly 1.5-GW floating offshore wind project in Greece.

The two parties have joined forces to identify the most suitable areas for the offshore wind project. Ocean Winds aims to become one of the top five global offshore wind developers and operators, according to the release. Ocean Winds North America Launched (Ind. Report)

EDP Renewables and ENGIE are reporting the formation of Madrid-headquartered Ocean Winds (OW) and its U.S. arm OW North America with 5.5 GW of committed offshore assets starting with a total of 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development. By the mid 2020's the company aims to have 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation or under construction and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development.

OW North America holds a 50 pct ownership stake in Mayflower Wind. and is a partner in the Redwood Coast Windfloat Atlantic -- a fully operational floating offshore wind farm in Portugal. OW will fill EDPR's role in the Redwood Coast public-private consortium committed to developing an offshore wind project utilizing floating platform technology off the coast of Humboldt County in Northern California. Global energy companies ENGIE and EDP have announced the launch of a new offshore wind energy company, Ocean Winds as the exclusive investment vehicle of ENGIE and EDP within the global offshore wind market.
