Ocean Winds North America Launched (Ind. Report)

EDP Renewables and ENGIE are reporting the formation of Madrid-headquartered Ocean Winds (OW) and its U.S. arm OW North America with 5.5 GW of committed offshore assets starting with a total of 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development. By the mid 2020's the company aims to have 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation or under construction and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development.

OW North America holds a 50 pct ownership stake in Mayflower Wind. and is a partner in the Redwood Coast Windfloat Atlantic -- a fully operational floating offshore wind farm in Portugal. OW will fill EDPR's role in the Redwood Coast public-private consortium committed to developing an offshore wind project utilizing floating platform technology off the coast of Humboldt County in Northern California. Mayflower Set to Begin Mass. Offshore Wind Project (Ind. Report)

In the Bay State, Boston-based Mayflower Wind Energy LLC, a joint venture of Shell New Energies US LLC and EDPR Offshore North America LLC (EDPR), reports it will supply 804 MW of offshore wind -- sufficient power for approximately 500,000 Massachusetts homes -- from its Mayflower Wind project 20 miles south of Nantucket.

The project is expected to come online in 2025 and to eliminate 1.7 million metric tpy of CO2 emissions -- the equivalent of taking 350,000 cars off the road.

Shell New Energies and EDPR reportedly have over 18,000 U.S. employees between them, a supply chain of more than 5,000 U.S. companies, $400 billion in market capitalization, experience operating 6,300 mw of onshore wind in the U.S. and ongoing development and construction of 2,700 mw of offshore wind projects in France, the Netherlands, Portugal and Scotland that are anticipated to be operational between now and 2023. Shell, EDP JV Pitch Connecticut Offshore Wind Farm (Ind. Report)

Mayflower Wind, a 50/50 Shell New Energies US and Portugal-based EDPR Offshore North America JV, reports the submission of bids to Connecticut regulators to develop and construct an offshore wind farm in leased waters roughly 20 miles south of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts.

One proposal is for a 408-mw wind project and the other is a 804-mw wind farm. Both would have an expected 20-year life span. Both Netherlands-based Shell and Portugal-based EDP have North American renewable operations based in Houston. US Offshore Wind Auction Draws $405Mn in Bids (Ind. Report)

In Washington, the US Department of Interior (DoI) is reporting its recent offshore wind lease auction of about 390,000 acres off the coast of Massachusetts has drawn a record $405 million in winning bids from Equinor Wind, Vineyard Wind and Mayflower Wind.

If fully developed, the three parcels near Martha's Vineyard and Block Island could generate about 4.1 gigawatts of energy -- sufficient power for as many as 1.5 million homes.

There are currently 15 active wind leases in federal waters that have generated more than $473 million in winning bids for nearly two million acres in federal waters, according to BOEM.
