350-MW Taiwan Wind Project Set for Construction (Int'l. Report)

wpd AG reports the 350-MW Guanyin offshore wind project off the coast of Taiwan is set to start construction for planned commissioning in 2022.

According to a release, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 36 units of its V164 turbine to be mounted on towers from CS Wind Taiwan. Formosa Heavy Industry and CTCI Machinery are providing monopile foundation structures that will be set with HLV seaway Yudin by Seaway Heavilift and Fred Olsen Windcarrier will install the turbines. The submarine cables are intended to be laid by CSBC Deme Wind Engineering (CDWE) and GE Taiwan will build an onshore-substation after the submarine cables have landed on the mainland. MHI, CIP Reporting Japan Offshore Wind JV (Int'l. Report)

Tokyo-headquartered Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) are reporting a 50/50 a joint venture to develop offshore wind projects off the coast of Hokkaido, in Japan.

MHI has established a presence within offshore wind via the joint venture MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, which is expanding into the Asian Pacific.

CIP is a global fund management company within renewable infrastructure investments established in 2012, having seven funds with approximately €10bn under management, investing in offshore wind, onshore wind, power transmission, biomass, energy-from-waste and solar projects. CIP entered the Japanese renewable energy market in 2018. WindFloat Atlantic Operating at Full Capacity (Int'l. Report)

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is reporting installation of the third and last V164-8.4 MW wind turbine on Principle Power's semi-submersible WindFloat Atlantic test platform 20 km off the Portuguese coast. The V164-8.4 MW wind turbines are the largest commercially-operating wind turbines installed offshore on floating platforms anywhere in the world.

WindFloat Atlantic is the first floating offshore wind farm in continental Europe, and will deliver an installed capacity of 25 MW -- sufficient power for 60,000 consumers in one year. The WindFloat Atlantic project was developed by the Windplus consortium, made up of EDP Renewables, Engie, Repsol and Principle Power. Vestas Supplying Turbines for Japanese Offshore Project (Int'l.)

Kallanish Energy is reporting Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas will supply and install 33 units of its V117-4.2 megawatt typhoon variant turbines for Japan's first utility-scale offshore wind farm, the 139-MW Akita Noshiro Offshore Wind Project in Akita prefecture.

Turbine delivery is slated for late 2021 for installation in 2022. The project is being developed by MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, a Vestas Wind Systems and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries JV that is developing 359 MW of wind power in Japan. MHI Vestas Offshore Wind Claims Taiwanese Orders (Int'l. Report)

MHI Vestas and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) are reporting financial closure on the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind projects totaling 589 MW in Taiwan.

The two projects will incorporate 62 units of Vesta's flagship V174-9.5 MW wind turbines. Changfang Phase 1 will comprise 10 wind turbines for an installed capacity of 95 MW and will be installed in 2022. Changfang Phase 2, comprising 47 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 446.5 MW, and Xidao, comprising 5 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 47.5 MW, will be installed in 2023.t

220 MW Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm will be the first in Asia Pacific to feature MHI Vestas’ V174-9.5 MW wind turbines. MHI Vestas has confirmed that its flagship V174-9.5 MW was selected as the preferred wind turbine for the Hibikinada Offshore Wind Farm. Hibikinada is the first awarded, commercial-scale wind power project to be announced in Japan, the strongest signal to date that the Japanese offshore wind energy market is rapidly stirring to life. Once installed, the wind power project will feature the most powerful wind turbines operating in Japan. Vestas Selected for French Floating Offshore Wind Farm (Int'l.)

Following up on our 9 October coverage, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind is reporting it has been selected as the preferred turbine supplier for the Eoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) pilot wind project off the south coast of France.

The project, a partnership between French utility Engie and EDP Renewables, will incorporate three V164-10.0 MW turbines mounted on WindFloat semi-submersible floating platforms from by Principle Power. MHI Vestas to Power French Floating Offshore Wind Project (Int'l)

Wind turbine manufacturer MHI Vestas Offshore Wind reports it has signed a preferred supplier agreement to supply turbines for the €230 million ($252.6 million), 28.5-MW Groix & Belle-Ile pilot floating wind project off the French coast.

MHI Vestas will provide three of its V164-9.5MW machines that will be used instead of the initially planned 6-MW General Electric turbines.

Iberdrola Taps MHI Vestas for Baltic Eagle Offshore Wind Farm (Int'l)

Reporting from Berlin, Iberdrola has announced the selection of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind as preferred turbine supplier for its €2.5 billion, 476-MW, Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm off the island of Rügen in the German Baltic Sea.

The contract will include up to 52 units of the V174-9.5 MW offshore wind turbine, the newly released version of the 9 MW platform from MHI Vestas. Delivery and installation is expected in 2022 / 2023.

MHI Developing World's Largest Wind Turbine (New Prod & Tech, Int'l)

Tokyo-headquartered conglomerate Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) reports it is working what could be the on the world's largest offshore wind turbine at 10,000kW output, for installation as early as 2020. MHI expects to market the giant turbines to the European wind market.

MHI plans to develop a 10,000kW turbine through MHI Vestas Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy and Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems, which is the world's second largest offshore wind turbine maker. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy and U.S.-headquartered General Electric are also reportedly planning to introduce over-10,000kW turbines after 2020.
