ENGIE EPS Launches Greek Hydrogen Energy Storage System (Int'l.)
ENGIE
Date: 2020-10-19
French energy giant ENGIE EPS has unveiled a hydrogen-based, renewable energy storage system built with its proprietary technology in Agkistro, Greece. The system will supply energy to an independent agri-food processing unit using energy from the nearby renewable energy developer Horizon-owned hydroelectric plant to produce hydrogen, which will be then stored and used for power generation as needed.

The system consists of a hydrogen power-to-power system made by an electrolyser, converting electricity into hydrogen power-to-gas and a fuel cell system, converting hydrogen stored in large quantities back to electricity gas-to-power. Enbridge, Hydrogenics Launch Power-to-Gas Energy Storage Facility (Ind. Report)
Enbridge, Hydrogenics
Date: 2018-07-18
Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Hydrogenics Corporation are reporting the launch of North America's first major hydrogen energy storage facility in Markham, Ontario.

The 2.5 MW facility uses technology developed and manufactured in Mississauga, Ontario by Hydrogenics. It was designed and built on a 5-MW scalable platform that incorporates Hydrogenic's next-generation PEM electrolyzer technology. The facility provides the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) of Ontario with a fast-responding resource to enhance the flexibility and reliability of operating the grid. Regulation service corrects for short-term changes in electricity use and helps compensate for real-time supply and demand imbalances.

The hydrogen produced can also be used for a number of purposes such as fuelling cars and trains, or blended into the natural gas system to offset traditional natural gas.
