350-MW Taiwan Wind Project Set for Construction (Int'l. Report)

wpd AG reports the 350-MW Guanyin offshore wind project off the coast of Taiwan is set to start construction for planned commissioning in 2022.

According to a release, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind will supply 36 units of its V164 turbine to be mounted on towers from CS Wind Taiwan. Formosa Heavy Industry and CTCI Machinery are providing monopile foundation structures that will be set with HLV seaway Yudin by Seaway Heavilift and Fred Olsen Windcarrier will install the turbines. The submarine cables are intended to be laid by CSBC Deme Wind Engineering (CDWE) and GE Taiwan will build an onshore-substation after the submarine cables have landed on the mainland. Foresight Fund Adds Spanish Wind Farm Portfolio (M&A, Int'l. Report)

In London, the Foresight Energy Infrastructure Partners (FEIP) European energy infrastructure fund is reporting acquisition of two operational wind farms totaling 94 MW located in the Castile and León region of Spain from developer WPD. Financial terms of the deal have not been revealed.

Fecamp Offshore Wind Farm Construction Underway (Int'l Report)

Croydon UK-based global engineering firm Mott MacDonald is reporting construction on the 497 MW Fecamp offshore wind farm in the English channel 13 km northwest of the town of Fecamp, France is underway.

The project will incorporate 71 Siemens Gamesa 154-7.0 MW direct drive wind turbines installed on gravity-based foundations. When fully operational in 2023, the wind farm is expected to generate sufficient energy for as many as 770,000 people annually.

Fecamp Offshore Wind Farm Construction Uuderway (Int'l. Report)

Paris-based EDF Renewables, a subsidiary of the EDF Group, Enbridge Inc. and wind energy developer wpd AG are reporting the launch of the 500 MW, 71 Siemens Gamesa turbine equipped Fecamp offshore wind farm in northern France waters following the finalization of financing.

Project commissioning is scheduled in 2023. When fully online the project is expected to generate sufficient power for 770,000 people. The project is estimated to cost €2 billion, the majority of which will be financed through non-recourse project level debt. The Fecamp offshore wind farm has a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) granted by the state in June 2018. Taiwanese Offshore Wind Farm Secures €2.7Bn Financing (Int'l)

In Taiwan, the largest offshore wind farm in Asia-Pacific is reported to have reached financial closure on €2.7 billion.

The 80 Siemens Gamesa turbine, 640 MW Yunlin Offshore Wind project project located eight kilometers off the coast of Yunlin County in western Taiwan, is being developed by Bremen, Germany-based WPD AG in two phases, with the first phase scheduled to be commissioned by 2020 and the second phase in 2021. WPD Taiwan Offshore Wind Farm Financing Arranged (Int'l Report)

Bremen, Germany-headquartered wind power developer WPD reports receipt of NT$74.2 billion ($2.36 billion) loan for a 640-MW offshore wind farm incorporating 80 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines to be developed 8km off Taiwan's central county of Yunlin. Fifty-four pct of the loan is secured export credit lines at an annual interest rate of 1.7 pct provided by Denmark's EKF, Germany's Euler Hermes and the Netherlands' Atradius, with the remaining 46 pct unsecured project financing from 15 foreign and four Taiwan banks.

The project, which has a 10-year PPA with state-run Taiwan Power Company, is slated for completion by year-end 2021. WPD holds a 73 pct stake in the wind farm and a Japan-based consortium of Sojiitz, JXTG Nippon Oil & Energy, Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko and Shikoku Electric Power hold the remaining 27 pct stake. Wisc. Focus on Energy Grants $65,377 for School Upgrades (Funding)

In the Badger State, the Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program , which is made possible by Alliant Energy and Waupun Utilities, reports the granting of a $65,377 and a matching incentive from WPPI Energy for $23,817 for nergy-saving improvements to lighting, heating and cooling systems at all schools within the Waupun Area School District.

In 2017-18 the Waupun School District initiated a $36 million energy efficiency and conservation-focused renovation of the district's school facilities. About that time the district applied for energy improvement incentive grants of nearly $90,000 for additional projects. CIP Unloads Equity Stake in Veja Mate Offshore Wind Farm (M&A)

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), through the fund CI-II, is reporting the divestment of its 23,4 pct stake in the Veja Mate offshore wind farm alongside its co-shareholders Highland Group Holdings and Siemens Financial Services to a European consortium of investors composed of funds managed by Commerz Real, wpd invest, KGAL, and the Ingka Group.

Siemens Financial Services will retain a 20 pct ownership in the project company and CI-II will remain a lender to Veja Mate which is located in the German North Sea. The 67, 6.0-MW Siemens turbines totaling 402 MW project is one of the largest offshore wind farms in the North Sea.

WPD Confirms 1GW Taiwan Offshore Wind Contracts (Int'l Report)

Further to our June 11th coverage, Bremen, Germany-headquartered wind power developer WPD Group reports it has secured and has begun work on 990 MW megawatts (MW) of new offshore wind energy contracts in Taiwan.

The projects are slated for completion by 2025. The company reports it has selected Siemens Gamesa for the majority of the contracted installations. Presently, WPD has 384 MW of installed onshore wind capacity but no offshore wind production capacity in Taiwan. Vestas Touts 113 MW of European Wind Turbine Orders (Int'l)

Danish wind turbine giant Vestas Wind Systems A/S reports it has secured contracts to supply 113 MW of wind turbines for projects in Germany, Finland and Sweden.Vestas will supply two units of its V150-4.2 MW turbines to NOTUS energy Plan GmbH & Co KG for installation at the Lubbenow II and Lubbenow III wind parks in Germany in #q, 2019. The contract includes a 20-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM 4000) service agreement and a VestasOnline Business SCADA monitoring system. Vestas has also secured a 59-MW, 14-unit contract in Finland from Germany-based Wpd AG and 42 MW total capacity turbine order from Swedish wind developer OX2. Google Data Center Inks Finnish Wind Energy PPA (Int'l Report)

Reuters is reporting IT juggernaut Google has signed a 10-year PPA for renewable energy from three new wind farms presently under construction in Finland. The combined capacity of the three farms will be 190 MW and will be built by renewable energy developers Neoen of France and Germany's CPC and WPD.

Google's Finnish data centre is situated in a former paper mill built originally in the 1950s and uses water from the Baltic Sea for cooling. According to Google, the Finnish deal is the first where it is purchasing power from European projects that will not receive any government subsidies.(Source: Reuters, Gadgets 360, 12 Sept., 2018)

WPD Establishes Japanese Subsidiary (Int'l. Report)

In Germany, Bremen-based wind power developer WPD Group reports the establishment of WPD Japan Co., Ltd. in Tokyo in January 2018. The company is seeking to develop both on- and offshore wind projects in Japan. The expansion was supported by the Japan External Trade Organization.

WPD Japan, which entered the Taiwan market in 2003 and the United States in 2007, seeks to develop both on and offshore wind projects in Japan The company presently has installed 2,180 wind turbines in 18 countries with a total installed capacity is over 4,400 MW. WPD AG Taps Siemens Gamesa for Taiwan Offshore Wind (Int'l)

In Germany, Bremen-based offshore wind energy developer WPD AG is reporting Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has been selected as its preferred wind turbine supplier for its 640-MW Yunlin offshore wind power project in Taiwan.

The two firms have signed a LoI "for exclusive negotiations" for Siemens Gamesa's SG 8.0-167 DD wind turbine. The contract would include a 15-year long-term turbine service agreement.

The Yunlin offshore wind power project is set to be developed around six kilometers offshore in the Taiwan Strait and will incorporate 80 Siemens Gamesas 8 MW wind turbines, with turbine installation set to begin in 2020. Offshore Wind Pioneer WPD AG Planning $1Bn Sale (Int'l Report)

In Germany, Bremen-based offshore wind energy developer WPD AG is reportedly seeking investors for an equity stake of at least $1 billion or potentially to purchase the company lock, stock and barrel.

Founded in 1996, WPD reportedly has 2,000 turbines in 18 countries. The company operates and manages wind power, biogas and solar energy plants and currently has 5.6 gigawatts of projects in early planning stages worldwide.
