CarbonCure Among 2019 Global Cleantech 100 Again (Ind. Report)
CarbonCure,NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE
Date: 2019-01-30
For the fourth consecutive year, Halifax, Nova Scotia-headquartered CarbonCure Technologies, a company leading a mission to reduce the carbon footprint of the concrete industry, has been named in the 2019 Global Cleantech 100, an annual guide to the leading companies and themes in sustainable innovation.

The CLeantech 100 features the private, independent, for-profit companies best positioned to solve tomorrow's clean technology challenges. This year marks the 10th edition of the list.

Concrete is the second most abundant man-made material in the world, and cement, its key ingredient, is responsible for an estimated 7 pct of global CO2 emissions. CarbonCure's proprietary technology uses recycled CO2 to improve the manufacturing process of concrete, while reducing the carbon footprint of the resulting concrete products.

CarbonCure is a recognized leader in the global CO2 Capture and Utilization (CCU) industry, estimated to be valued at $1 trillion by 2030. The CarbonCure Technology is being used by more than 100 concrete producers across North America to reduce concrete's carbon footprint, create new production cost savings and gain a competitive sales advantage. The company is a recognized leader in the growing industry of CO2-utilization, which is expected to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by 15% by 2030. CarbonCure is also one of 10 finalists in the $20 million NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE challenge, and is a portfolio company of Breakthrough Energy Ventures, which is backed by Bill Gates, Vinod Khosla, Sir Richard Branson, Jeff Bazos, Michael Bloomberg and other business leaders. Carbon Capture Machine Incorporates in Wyoming (Ind. Report)
XPrize
Date: 2018-09-17
The University of Aberdeen, in Scotland, reports its Carbon Capture Machine recently filed as a Limited Liability Company in the state of Wyoming where it plans to utilize the Basin Electric Dry Fork power plant test center near Gillette to launch the company in the US.

The test center is funded with $15 million in startup costs provided by the Wyoming State Legislature and financial contributions and partnerships from the utility and industries. Wyoming’s aim, which it achieved last year, was to build the largest carbon capture research facility in the country and foster the growth of a constrained industry that could help coal survive in a carbon sensitive world.

The Carbon XPrize finalist Carbon Capture Machine is in the third round of the competition. Winners will be announced in spring of 2020. Capital Power Takes Equity Stake in C2CNT (M&A, Ind. Report)
Capital Power,C2CNT
Date: 2018-05-30
Edmonton, Alberta-based power producer Capital Power is reporting acquisition of an equity interest in C2CNT, a company that has developed and is now applying at scale an innovative technology that captures and transforms CO2 into carbon nanotubes for various industrial applications.

The C2CNT technology, which was developed by a team of scientists led by Professor Stuart Licht at George Washington University, uses electrolysis with a current generated by electrodes to separate the carbon from the oxygen, repurposes the carbon into a strong, useable carbon fiber (nanotube), and oxygen that is available for other uses. Dr. Licht and his team are among five finalists competing in the natural gas track of the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE competition. CO2 Solutions Successful in NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE (Ind. Report)
CO2 Solutions
Date: 2018-04-11
Montreal-headquartered CO2 Solutions Inc. reports two of its entries -- Carbicrete of Montreal and CERT of Toronto -- have passed round 2 of the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE and have been accepted among the ten round 3 finalists. These entries combined CO2 Solutions' carbon capture technology with the respective partner's CO2 utilization technology. CO2 Solutions and these named partners will equally share the sum of $500,000 US in prize money awarded to each of the winning entries for a total of $500,000 US for the Corporation.

It is expected that round 3 results will be known in March 2020. The criterion for round 3 is to successfully demonstrate the capture and utilization of CO2 at a minimal capacity of 2 tonnes-CO2 per day, which is a milestone that CO2 Solutions already surpassed in its Valleyfield pilot in 2015. . CO2 Solutions has built an extensive patent portfolio covering the use of carbonic anhydrase, or analogues thereof, for the efficient post-combustion capture of carbon dioxide with low-energy aqueous solvents.
