Willdan to Implement SDG&E Efficiency Programme (Ind. Report)

In the Golden State, US utility San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) has selected Anaheim-headquartered Willdan for the design and implementation of a $42 million Small Commercial Energy Efficiency Programme that provides energy efficiency and demand response to small businesses with peak demand of less than 20KW.

The programme includes technical assistance, direct installation and new financing vehicles tailored for very small customers.

The programme includes a do-it-yourself installation option, the use of a new online platform to streamline programme delivery, and partnership with community-based organisations to assist hard-to-reach customers and customers located in disadvantaged communities.

This is Willdan's first award through the California Investor-Owned Utilities' new, multi-stage competitive bidding process which aims to outsource 60 pct of their energy efficiency programmes to third-party implementers by the end of 2022. Willdan Energy Design Assistance Contract Renewed (Ind. Report)

Anaheim, California-headquartered Willdan Group Inc. reports it has been selected by Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy Inc. to continue implementing the Energy Design Assistance (EDA) Program. This latest contract is valued at $10 million over four years.

The EDA program provides commercial building owners within Xcel Energy and CenterPoint Energy's service territory with energy expertise to encourage energy-efficient building design and construction. The program uses Willdan's real-time energy modeling software -- Net Energy Optimizer (NEO) -- to allow project teams to visualize the effects of energy efficiency measures. The program serves new commercial construction, additions, and major renovations over 20,000 square feet.

Willdan has served more than 900 buildings through this program to date, delivering 23 million therms and 550 million kWh in annual savings, according to the release. Anaheim, California-headquartered consultancy and energy efficiency specialist Willdan Group Inc. is reporting a strategic alliance with Energetico, Inc. to introduce Energetico's proprietary environmental Climate Processor® technology for public venues.

Energetico's technology solution typically saves 25 pct -- 60 pct of a building's energy costs; produces healthier, more comfortable air; and offers a new source of 'off the grid' water. This system is a standalone, plug-and-play system which seamlessly integrates into venues without the necessity of replacing existing HVAC systems.

Willdan Wins Hospitality Energy Mgmt. Contract (Ind. Report)

Anaheim, California-headquartered Willdan Group Inc. reports it has been awarded a pay-for-performance contract by Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) to implement the utility's Commercial Energy Management Technology (EMT) for Lodging Program. This two-year, $2.5 million program will bring EMT-system-based, natural-gas-saving energy efficiency projects to participating lodging customers consuming 50,000 therms or less annually.

Willdan will begin each project by performing a building energy audit and proposing an energy efficiency project plan based on the customer's needs and budget. Data measurement commences after new equipment, including the EMT system, have been installed. In addition to measuring and verifying energy savings, Willdan will provide engineering, technical, and administrative assistance to customers through the duration of the program.

The Program offers up-front incentives to help offset customer out-of-pocket costs, and upon confirmation of energy savings, customers will receive additional incentives based on actual natural gas savings, capped at 50 pct of project costs. Willdan to Acquire Lime Energy for $120Mn (Ind. Report, M&A)

Anaheim, California-headquartered energy efficiency specialist Willdan Group Inc. and Newark, NJ-based Lime Energy Co. are reporting a merger agreement under which Wildan will acquire all outstanding shares of Lime Energy for a total of $120 million, subject to customary holdbacks and adjustments. The deal is expected to close before the year end.

Lime Energy designs and implements direct install energy efficiency programs for utilities that target energy savings for commercial customers. Lime Energy's programs help these businesses use less energy through the upgrade of existing equipment and installation of new, more energy efficient equipment. Willdan Funded to Research Bundle-Based Energy Efficiency (Funding)

Anaheim, California-headquartered energy efficiency and technical services specialist Willdan Group Inc. reports it has received California Energy Commission (CEC) grant funding to demonstrate emerging energy efficiency technologies through the Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC). These technologies will be demonstrated at the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) headquarters facility in Diamond Bar, California for the purposes of testing for scalability in the larger California commercial market.

The Bundle-Based Energy Efficiency Technology Solutions for California (BEETS) is a 42 month project that upon completion will improve energy efficiency at the SCAQMD facility by over 20 pct. The project has $4 million in CEC EPIC funding and $2.3 million in matching funding, for a total project budget of $6.3 million, along with several subcontractor donations of time and equipment.

As part of the BEETS project, Willdan developed three bundles of pre-commercial technologies for the following spaces: laboratory and critical environments, office and exterior spaces, and chilled water plants. Technologies will include chillers using a new refrigerant that does not deplete the ozone layer; LED fixtures with integrated, advanced controls; an advanced building management system; direct current lighting systems; advanced ventilation and laboratory fume hood exhaust systems; wirelessly integrated plug load controls; and a platform capable of demand response.
