850 MW Nevada Solar Project Cancelled (Ind. Report)

Glendale California-based renewable energy developer Arevia Power and Oakland-based Solar Partners VII LLC are reported to have pulled their application with Bureau of Land Management (BLM) for their planned Battle Born Solar Project , an 850 MW, 9,200-acre solar project which would have been constructed roughly 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canary Biofuels Nails Invigor Bioenergy Acquisition (M&A)

On the Canadian prairies, Calgary-headquartered Canary Biofuels Inc. is reporting completion of a $16.5 million (Cdn) non-brokered private placement equity financing and closing of its acquisition of biodiesel producer Invigor Bioenergy Corporation, also of Calgary. The company also inked an agreement with Canadian Western Bank providing for a credit facility with $7 million of borrowing capacity.

Canary will use proceeds from the financing to convert the Invigor biodiesel facility to produce 75 million lpy of second-generation biodiesel from agricultural waste feedstock before the year end. Calpine's Broome County NY Wind Farm Gets the Nod (Ind Report)

Following up on our November 11 th coverage, meeting in Albany, the New York State Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment is reporting approval of Calpine Corporation's proposed, but vigorously opposed, 40-turbine 124-MW Bluestone Wind Farm in eastern Broome County.

The approval came despite the town of Sanford's recently enacted zoning law that effectively banned the project. The project was also opposed by local residents and environmental groups including the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society on grounds ranging from aesthetics, health, noise and bird endangerment. that it posed an unacceptable risk to bald and golden eagles. Stratford, Ont. Considering Organic Waste-to-RNG Plant (Ind. Report)

In Ontario, the City of Stratford (pop. 31,500) reports it is considering plans to turn landfill organic waste into renewable natural gas (RNG) at a city water plant in a residential area.

The project is reportedly being vigorously opposed by city residents due primarily to its residential area location. The city says it is aiming to utilize facilities that are already in place. If approved and constructed, the proposed project would be completed in about a year. Wave Energy Converter Ready for Testing (Ind. Report)

In Washington State, Portland-based Vigor Industrial LLC is reporting completion of a OE 35 Buoy wave energy converter for Ireland-based Ocean Energy. The buoy weighs 826 tons, measures 125 feet by 59 feet, has a 31-foot draft, and has a potential rate capacity of 1.25 MW in electrical power production.

The $12 million buoy, which was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, will be transported to the U.S. Navy Wave Energy

GEVO Trialing LocusAG Technology to Amplify Soil Carbon Sequestration (Ind Report)

Englewood, Colorago-headquartered biobutanol and biofuels specialist GEVO Inc. is reporting a partnership with Locus Agricultural Solutions® (LocusAG) to trial a new technology to improve the capture of soil carbon, reduce applied nitrogen fertilizer needs and improve crop yields.

LocusAG's Rhizolizer® line of fresh, non-GMO soil probiotic treatments have been used to treat 40,000 commercial agriculture acres across several crops, with positive results in improving crop productivity, crop quality, vigor and sustainability. Treatments are now being tested on Gevo's 30-acre farm co-located at its Luverne, MN ethanol facility.

According to LocusAG, the treatments have the potential to amplify crop soil carbon sequestration by up to an additional 3 to 6 metric tpy of CO2 equivalents per acre while increasing crop yields and grower profits.
