Philippines-based ACEN Corp. -- fka AC Energy Corp. -- and AMI Renewables of Vietnam are reporting its 252-MW wind farm in Quang Binh, Vietnam has begun commercial operations. The $358,4 million project is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 580,000 tpy and generate about 648 gigawatt hours per year of electricity -- sufficient power for 270,000 homes.

The wind farm is ACEN and AMI's third renewable energy pproject in Vietnam, the first two being the 50-MW and 30-MW solar farms in Khanh Hoa and Dak Lak, respectively, which started operating in 2019. A battery energy storage system is planned for the facility in Khanh Hoa.

GE Renewable Energy reports receipt of an order from BIM Wind JSC to supply, install and commission wind turbines from its Cypress onshore wind turbine platform for an 88-MW wind project in Vietnam's Ninh Thuan province. The order includes a 15-year full service agreement.

The $135.9 million project is expected generate 306.9 million kWh per year for the national power grid when it comes online by the end Q3, this year.

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas reports it will supply an additional 50 MW of turbines for the second phase of the Hoa Binh 1 wind farm in Hoa Binh, a district of Bac Lieu Province, Vietnam. The contract includes a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement along with the supply and supervision of the installation of 13 V150 -- 4.2 MW turbines, ten of which will be delivered in 3.8 MW and three in 4.0 MW operating mode.

Banpu Public Co Ltd, a leading integrated energy solutions company in Asia-Pacific, is reporting it will acquire the 37.6-MW El Wind Mui Dinh Wind Farm in Vietnam for $66 million (US), subject to adjustments. Banpu notes it has secured a feed-in-tariff of $0.085/kWh for a period of 20 years in a power purchase agreement with Vietnam Electricity.

The El Wind Mui Dinh Wind Farm began commercial operation in April, 2019, with 16 Enercon 2.35-MW wind turbines. Spanish wind energy major Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) reports it will supply 25 units of its 4.5-145 turbines with a 10 year service agreement for Hoa Thang Energy's 113 MW 1.2 wind farm in Vietnam.

Hoa Thang Energy Joint Stock Company is a special-purpose vehicle of Vietnam's construction group Trading Construction Works Organization. The project is expected to come online in 2021 and will generate sufficient energy for roughly 240,000 Veitnam households.

The Vietnamese government estimates the country's total power generating capacity will reach 125-130 GW by 2030, up from 46 GW in 2018. The government also aims for renewable energy to account for 15-20 pct of its total energy output by 2030 and has established a target of developing 6 GW of wind power capacity by 2030.
