Valmet Supplying Automation to UK Landfill Gas Project (Int'l. Report)

In Finland, Espoo-headquartered Valmet Oyi reports it will supply automation to a gas clean-up system at Viridor's Dunbar Landfill site in East Lothian, Scotland, UK. The first-of-its-kind system allows the successful capture of CO2 and transforms landfill gas into transport fuels.

The clean-up system will be supplied by the Dutch company CarbonOrO for a July delivery and a fall startup and commissioning.

Viridor Waste Management Ltd. has the UK's largest network of more than 300 advanced recycling, energy recovery and landfill diversion facilities. The company works in partnership with more than 150 local authority and major corporate clients with 32,000 customers across the UK.

CarbonOrO's mission is to mitigate climate change by turning landfills or anaerobic digestion plants into a source of renewable energy or extracting CO2 out of flue gas. Valmet Supplying Automation to AustroCel Bioethanol Plant (Int'l.)

In Finland, Espoo-headquartered Valmet Oyi reports it will supply automation technology to AustroCel Hallein Gmbh's bioethanol plant currently under construction for completion and startup in Hallein, Austria., before the year end. The AustroCel plant will produce bioethanol from viscose pulp mill waste through a process of fermenting and distilling wood sugar.

Valmet's scope of work includes an upgrade of the existing system and the extension of the Valmet DNA automation and information management system, along with application engineering, project implementation and installation. Valmet Supplying Woody Biomass Boiler to Finnish Power Plant (Int'l)

In Finland, Espoo-headquartered Valmet Oyi reports it will supply a new Naistenlahti 3 boiler biomass boiler plant to Tampereen Sahkolaitos Oy's Naistenlahti power plant in the city of Tampere, Finland.

The new €70 million plant will be fueled mainly by renewable woody biomass and milled peat as a secondary fuel. The biomass boiler will have a steam capacity of 191 MW and will run as a baseload plant for district heat production from September to June. Delivery and installation is expected in 2022. The Research Institutes of Sweden's Finland Bioflex-Eranet Project and VTT Technical Research Center report they are investigating are the suitability of biomass and waste plastic-based fuel oils for marine engines.

The BioFlex project, which is being coordinated by VTT, has a budget of €1.6 million and is co-financed by Business Finland and VTT. Valmet Supplying Flue Gas Unit to Helsinki Woody Biomass Power Plant (Int'l. Report)

In Finland, Espoo-headquartered Valmet Oyi reports it will supply a flue gas condensing plant and condensate treatment equipment, including a boiler make-up water production system to the city-owner central heating and power utility Helen Ltd's Vuosaari C woody biomass powered heating plant in Helsinki.

The new bioenergy heating plant will feature very high energy efficiency, as the heat from flue gases will be recovered to increase district heat production by 69 MW, according to the Valmet release. Valmet to Optimize Helen Oy's District Heating Efficiency (Int'l.)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet reports it has been selected to improve the energy efficiency of the city of Helsinki's power plant -- Helen Oy's -- district heat production and network in Helsinki, Finland.

Valmet's work will reduce emissions, increase plant efficiency, lower operating costs be operational in Spring 2021. Helen is aiming for 100 pct carbon neutrality in its energy production by 2035.

Valmets work includes a DNA District Heat Manager that optimizes the temperature of the district heating network flow, pressure differences and pumping, and coordinates the capacity of heating plants and district heat accumulators. It also automates the operations of district heating networks and plants for maximum efficiency. Valmet Announces BS Energy Biomass Boiler Order (Int'l. Report)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet is reporting it will supply a biomass-fired boiler and a flue gas treatment plant to BS Energy's combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Braunschweig, Germany. The roughly €50 million boiler with its auxiliary equipment is in line with BS Energy's energy production strategy 2030 which aims to remove and replace coal-fired boilers by 2022.

The biomass-fired CHP plant will produce approximately 20 MW of electricity and 60 MW of district heat. The CYMIC circulating fluidized bed boiler included in Valmet's delivery will use recycled wood as its primary fuels to generate 27 kg/s of high-pressure steam at a pressure of 75 bar and a temperature of 525 C. The flue gas cleaning system included in the delivery will enable fulfilling the tightening emission standards.

Valmet Announces Biomasse Energie d'Alizay Order (Int'l Report)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet Corp reports receipt of an order from Biomasse Energie d'Alizay to convert a recovery boiler into a biomass boiler utilizing bubbling fluidized bed combustion technology (BFB) at a DA Alizay paper mill in France.

According to Valmet, the order is included in its first quarter of 2019 orders received, and is valued at approximately €20 million. Valmet's delivery is scheduled for 2020.

Valmet Renews Croatian Woody Biomass Plant O&M Agreement (Int'l)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet Corp and Uni Viridas are reporting the signing of a ten-year operation and maintenance agreement for the biomass power plant in Babina Greda, Croatia. The companies began working together in 2011, and in 2015 Valmet began to operate and maintain the biomass power plant on behalf of the customer. Valmet and Uni Viridas will continue their cooperation and maximize the plant's performance until 2029.

The biomass power plant, delivered by Valmet, is a fluidized bed boiler -- BiowerPower 8 -- plant with an electrical output of up to 10 MWel and a heat output of up to 16 MWth. The fuel utilized is forest wood and wood chips.

Valmet Scores Finnish Woody Biomass Boiler Order (Int'l. Report)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet Corp reports it has contracted to supply a woody biomass-fired boiler plant for heat and electric power provider Elenia Lampo Oy's Vanaja power plant in Finland. Financial details have not been disclosed.

Valmet, a supplier of process technologies for the pulp, paper and energy industries, will deliver a HYBEX boiler plant with a capacity of 35 MWth, utilising a bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology. An electrostatic precipitator and a flue gas condenser included in the project will increases heat capacity by 10 MW. Assembly work is slated to get underway in the autumn of 2019 for a 2020 commissioning and startup. Valmet Supplying Biomass Pre-treatment System for Clariant's Romanian Plant (Int'l. Report)

Further to our Sept. 14 coverage, Espoo, Finland-headquartered Valmet reports it will deliver a BioTrac biomass pre-treatment system to the Swiss company Clariant's 50,000 tpd Sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol plant in Romania, which is slated for startup in 2020.

The delivery includes a BioTrac™ biomass pre-treatment system with a capacity of over 800 tpd of dry biomass, as well as all main parts for biomass dosing, the reactor, the feeding system to the reactor, and steam separation.

Clariant's Sunliquid® technology converts agricultural residue such as wheat straw into cellulosic ethanol, an advanced, sustainable and practically carbon-neutral biofuel. New Internet-Based Biomass Feedstock Supply System Touted (Int'l)

Finland-based engineering company Valmet and Turun Seudun Energiatuotanto Oy (TSE) are reporting the development of DNA Fuel Chain Management, an internet-based system to support the delivery of woody biomass, straw, peat, coal, refinery gas and refuse-derived feedstock.

The system is being implemented at utility company TSE's new €240 million multifuel plant in Naantali, which became operational at the end of last year. The facility will process up to 1.2 million cubic metres per year of woody biomass an generate 146 MW of electricity and 250MW of heat.

The DNA system creates the fuel purchasing plan and distributes it to suppliers. This includes the exact amount, type of fuel and delivery time slot desired from each supplier.
