A group of 17 global leaders from across the renewable energy value chain and the sector’s innovation ecosystem have launched the Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy, a new organization to ensure renewables are wholly sustainable and lead a just transition away from fossil fuels. The partners' shared vision is the need to take concrete, collaborative action to decarbonize the global energy system while ensuring its sustainability from an environmental, social and governance (ESG) perspective.

The Global Alliance for Sustainable Energy founding members include: 3M, Adani Green Energy Ltd., EDP, Eletrobras, Enel Green Power, Global Solar Council, Global Wind Energy Council, Goldwind, Iberdrola, JA Solar, Nordex Group, NTPC Limited, Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino, ReNew Power, Risen Energy and Trina Solar. Trina Solar's 100 MW Agri-Solar Project Grid Connected (Int'l.)

Trina Solar is reporting a 160-hectare, 100MW agricultural photovoltaic solar project in Luotian County, Hubei province, China, is now connected to the grid.

The project, covering 160 hectares, uses Trina Solar's 210 Vertex 550W series and is expected to generate 110 million kWh of electricity a year, which may offset 42,000 tonnes of standard coal and reduce CO2 emissions by 104,500 tpy.

The 210 Vertex module, based on large 210mm silicon wafers, achieves low-voltage high-power characteristics with innovative non-destructive cutting and high density cell interconnect technology, achieving maximum power of 670W with an efficiency of 21.6 pct and single string power rising 40 pct, according to the Trina release. Trina Shipping 850 MWp PV Modules for Brazilian Project (Int'l.)

Shanghai-headquartered Trina Solar Co., Ltd., the major vendor of PV modules for Sao Paulo, Brazil-based Focus Energia's Futura 1, a project consisting of 22 solar energy parks under development in Juazeiro, Bahia, Brazil, reports the project is expected to be commissioned in April, 2022.

Modules for the 850 MWp first phase of the three-phase project will leave China in the second week of August with 59,292 pieces of 600W series of modules. These bifacial modules with 210 mm cells are part of Trina Solar's Vertex line.

According to Focus Energia, the project's energy production will be entirely destined for the Brazilian free market. Trina has been active in Brazil since 2017. Trina Touts PERC Module Aperture Efficiency (Int'l. Report)

Changzhou, China-based solar energy giant Trina Solar's State Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Science and Technology (SKL) is reporting its proprietary Vertex high-efficiency p-type monocrystalline silicon module -- based on 66 pcs of 210 mm x 210 mm high-efficiency PERC cells -- has achieved a record aperture module efficiency of 23.03 pct for larger-area industrial silicon p-type modules, as independently confirmed by TUV Rheinland.

Trina researchers developed a new Multi-Musbar (MBB) technology to improve optical shading, and developed a new hybrid soldering technology to minimize the gap between cells, greatly improving the module efficiency, with solar cells from the production lines of 210 mm high efficiency PERC cells. Trina Solar Intros 670W Vertex Module (New Prod. & Tech.)

Shanghai-headquartered Trina Solar Co., Ltd. reports the unveiling of a new generation of TUV Rhineland IEC certified ultra-high power Vertex module with a single panel power of 670W.

According to the release, the 670W Vertex series inherits the non-destructive cutting, high-density interconnection and other high-precision technologies of the 210mm modules but delivers higher power than other 500W+ modules in the industry. Compared to other 500W+ high-power modules, the 670W Vertex module achieves a total power increase of up to 18,760W per string, 34 pct higher than that of the 500W+ modules, the release notes. Trina Solar Launches New 600 Watt Solar Panels (Int'l. Report)

Shanghai-headquartered Trina Solar Co., Ltd. is reporting the launch of two 600 Watt Vertex series solar panels -- a further increase in power from the 500W+ modules the firm launched earlier in the year.

"By virtue of low-voltage and high-module string power output, the new Vertex series unlocks huge potential for further reducing balance-of-system costs. The modules will help reduce the levelized cost of energy across various applications and maximize customer value," said Zhang Yingbin, head of product strategy and value management at Trina Solar.

TPG Launches Matrix Renewables with 1GW solar Portfolio (M&A)

San Francisco-based alternative asset manager TPG reports its Rise Fund has acquired a 1GW portfolio of solar projects from Trina Solar for its newly created, Matrix Renewables which is based in Madrid.

The acquisitions include operational, under construction or in late stage development nearing ready-to-build status projects in Spain, Chile, Colombia and Mexico. Runergy Adding Mono PERC Cell Manufacturing Capacity (Int'l.)

China's fourth largest solar cell manufacturer, Run Sunshine Technology (Runergy) reports construction of a new, $424 million monocrystalline PERC cell production line is underway in Yancheng city, 200km north of the companys Suzhou headquarters in Jiangsu province. When fully operational, the new line will increase the company's annual cell production capacity by 6 GW.

The first 3 GW phase of the Yancheng facility is expected to begin production across 11 lines around June, 2020. Construction on a second 3 GW phase will commence one year later with the total 6 GW facility planned for completion within three years. Trina Touts N-type i-TOPCon Bifacial Solar Modules (New Prod & Tech)

Shanghai-headquartered solar panel manufacturer Trina Solar Limited reports it has begun mass production of its N-type i-TOPCon double-glass bifacial modules. The best front side power output of a module with 144 half-cut i-TOPCon cells reaches 425 Wp, and the best module efficiency reaches 20.7 pct.

The new i-TOPCon double glass PV modules integrate N-type bifacial i-TOPCon cells with over 80 pct bifaciality, multi-busbar (MBB) design, full square monocrystalline cells, dual-side and half-cut technologies. The highly efficient modules feature a lower temperature coefficient and low light induced degradation (LID), greatly improving the actual power output. They also provide an extra 5 pct to 30 pct power generation from their back side, and feature a 30-year linear power warranty. Trina Solar TOPCon Cell Sets Efficiency Record (Int'l Report)

Shanghai-headquartered Trina Solar's State Key Laboratory (SKL) of PV Science and Technology (PVST) of China has confirmed Trina set a new world record for a high-efficiency n-type mono-crystalline silicon i-TOPCon solar cell.

The record-breaking bifacial solar cell was fabricated on a 244.62 sq-cm wafer with a low-cost industrial process of advanced Industrial Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (i-TOPCon) technologies, having a front boron emitter and a rear full-area passivating contact. The bifacial solar cell reached a total-area front side efficiency of 24.58 pct, as independently confirmed by the ISFH CalTeC in Germany.
