EID Parry's Ethanol-from-Molasses Production Underway (Int'l)

Chennai, India-based East India Distilleries Parry Limited (EID Parry) is reporting plans to begin ethanol production at its facilities has been approved "in principle" by the Indian federal government Department of Food and Public Distribution. The agency will also supply financial assistance for the project, according to EID Parry.

In accordance with its plan, the company's Sankili unit (Srikakulam) has begun producing Ethanol from B Heavy molasses.

Brazilian Ethanol Producers Cutting Crushing Debt (Int'l)

In Sao Paulo, investment bank Itau BBA International Plc is reporting Brazilian sugar and ethanol producers have reduced their debt to the lowest level in half a decade as a result of increased efficiency, sharp cost cuts and almost no investments in cane processing capacity.

According Itau BBA collected data from companies accounting for almost 80 pct of Brazil's center-south cane crushing capacity, mills closed the 2017/18 season with average debt of 117 reais ($31.47) per tonne of cane crushed, versus 120 reais in the previous season, and the lowest since the 104 reais per tonne in the 2013/14 crop. Copersucar Foresees Increased Ethanol Production (Int'l)

Sao Paulo, Brazil-based based sugar and ethanol giant Copersucar reports it expects the country's center-south mills to increase ethanol production by as much as 1 billion lpy next season to take advantage of higher demand and prices for the biofuel, according to a Reuters report.

BIOCOM Expects Small Sugar Ethanol Production Increase (Int'l)

In Angola, Companhia de Bioenergia de Angola (BIOCOM) reports that sugar production in the 2017/2018 year may reach 63,000 tonnes, an increase of 20 pct over the previous year, and that 15,278 cubic metres of ethanol will be produced compared to 14,263 cubic metres in the previous year.

BIOCOM is the first Angolan company to produce and market sugar, ethanol and electricity from biomass, with the main target being small, medium and large wholesalers in the Angolan market. Biocom is a partnership between Odebrecht Angola Produtos e Servicos, a subsidiary of Brazilian group Odebrecht, Angolan company Cochan, and state-owned oil company Sonangol. Raizen Offers $245m for Brazilian Sugar Ethanol Facilities (Int'l, M&A)

Rio de Janeiro-based Brazilian sugar and ethanol producer Raizen Energia SA reports it has submitted a binding offer of $ 245 million to acquire two Brazilian mills belonging to Tonon Bioenergia SA.

The two sugar and ethanol mills, Santa Candida in Bocaina and Paraiso in Brotas, both in Sao Paulo, will be sold through a court-supervised auction with sealed proposals. Raizen is a joint venture between Cosan and Anglo-Dutch oil group Royal Dutch Shell Plc . Raizen reportedly produced 528 million gallons of ethanol in 2015. Petrobras Ethanol Asset Sale Falls $1.5bn Short of Target (Int'l)

Following on our Oct., 26, 2016 coverage Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras reports that the recent sale of its ethanol and petrochemicals assets for $587 million still falls $1.5 billion short of its divestment target for the 2015-2016 period. The asset sale is aimed at slashing the company's $125 billion debt.

As part of the $587 million sale, Petrobras sold its 46 pct stake in ethanol producer Guarani SA, which was acquired for $202 million by its French partner Tereos SA, which will now own all of the company.

Petrobras also reported the sale of two petrochemical units -- Petroquimica Suape and Citepe -- to Mexican group Alpek SAB de CV subsidiaries Grupo Petrotemex SA de CV and Dak Americas Exterior SL for $385 million. Petrobras is selling off noncore assets in a bid to reduce its $125 billion debt, the largest in the global oil industry. Tereos Reportedly Seeking Brazilian Biofuels Buy-Back (Int'l. M&A)

Following on our July 1, 2015 coverage, Reuters is reporting that Lille, France-headquartered sugar group Tereos is now interested in buying back a 45 pct minority stake in seven of its Brazilian-based sugar and ethanol plants from the state-run Petroleo Brasileiro SA. Tereos has a right of first refusal over any potential Petrobras sale of the stake in its sugar and ethanol business.
