ENGIE, NHEC Complete Solar Energy Storage Project (Ind. Report)
ENGIE North America,Hampshire Electric Cooperative
Date: 2021-05-17
The New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) in Plymouth is reporting the completion of its first utility scale, 2.45 MW solar battery energy storage project developed in partnership with Houston-headquartered energy storage services provider ENGIE North America.

ENGIE will own and operate the battery unit on the site of NHEC's 2 MW solar array in Moultonborough, NH, and discharge the battery to supply energy to NHEC members up to 70 times per year. The battery project will provide NHEC with insight and direct experience into how battery storage technologies interact with its electrical system and respond to price signals, and will be used to reduce NHEC's transmission charges and regional capacity payments. NHEC estimates these discharges will save its members $2.3 million over the next 12 years. ADB Funding Maldives Solar + Storage Installations (Int'l.)
Asian Development Bank
Date: 2020-11-09
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it approved a concessional loan worth $7.74 million and a project grant worth $2.73 million to advance the existing "Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED)" project in the Maldives.

In January 2020, the ADB and Maldives' environment ministry began installation of solar battery-diesel hybrid systems on 48 iof the 160 inhabited islands of the atoll nation. According to its press statement, the project will further expand renewable-based hybrid systems, energy management systems, distribution grid upgrades, and supervisory control and data acquisition systems on 12 outer islands. Besides, a climate and disaster-resilient electricity distribution system will be developed in an outer island of Maldives. It will also perform a pilot test for a solar photovoltaic-based operated ferry for transportation.

The ADB said that the existing diesel-based power generation grids have been replaced in 70 outer islands by installing over 9.5 MW of solar capacity, 5.6 MWh of battery storage, and 11.6 MW of energy-efficient diesel generators. Sunrun, SCE Launching Virtual Solar Energy Storage (Ind. Report)
Sunrun,Southern California Edison
Date: 2020-06-17
In the Golden State, San Francisco-based home solar, battery storage, and energy services specialist Sunrun Inc. reports it is working with regional utility Southern California Edison (SCE) to launch one of the first residential energy storage virtual power plants in operation in the U.S.

Beginning this month and continuing through mid-2021, Sunrun and SCE will network up to 300 of Sunrun's Brightbox residential rooftop solar plus battery storage systems across Southern California to demonstrate how clean energy stored in Sunrun Brightbox rechargeable solar battery systems can provide the peaking capacity to the electrical grid for Southern California residents.

The program unlocks additional value for both Sunrun and Sunrun customers. Homeowners will earn an incentive for participating in the program, and Sunrun will generate revenue by managing and dispatching the networked home solar and battery-stored energy to the grid when SCE calls an event to meet local grid operational requirements.
