Pattern Completes 1,050 MW Western Spirit Wind Project (Ind. Report)

Following up on our Dec. 8, 2021 coverage, Pattern Energy Group LP reports it has completed construction and begun commercial operation of its suite of Western Spirit Wind power projects in Guadalupe, Lincoln, and Torrance Counties in central New Mexico.

The project is comprised of four wind power facilities utilizing a total of 377 GE wind turbines ranging from 2.3 to 2.8 MW in size to generate more than 1,050 MW. Western Spirit Wind has long-term PPAs with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, San Jose Clean Energy, East Bay Community Energy, California Choice Energy Authority and member cities, and international energy company Uniper Global Commodities. Western Spirit Wind will also provide power to New Mexico municipalities, including Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, through the Uniper Global Commodities power purchase agreement. Western Spirit Wind Power Transmission Line Energized (Ind. Report)

In Albuquerque, Pattern Energy Group LP and the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) are reporting the Western Spirit Transmission line has been energized and is fully operational.

The 155-mile 345 kV transmission line, which was jointly developed by Pattern Energy and RETA, will collect up to 800 MW of wind power from central New Mexico and connect it to the electric grid managed by Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) near Albuquerque. PNM will acquire and operate the transmission line shortly after commissioning is fully completed.

The Western Spirit Transmission line is enabling the construction of Pattern Energy’s suite of Western Spirit Wind power projects, which is scheduled for completion at the end of December 2021. Totaling more than 1,050 MW, the Western Spirit Wind projects represent the largest single-phase renewable power build out in U.S. history. The four wind projects that comprise Western Spirit Wind are located in Guadalupe, Lincoln and Torrance Counties in central New Mexico. Pattern's 150-MW Alberta Wind Farm Const. Underway (Ind. Report)

US-based renewable energy developer Pattern Energy Group LP reports construction is underway on the $281.1 million, 150-MW Lanfine Wind power project ear Oyen, Alberta, Canada.

Lanfine Wind, which was developed by Pattern Canada and will incorporate 35 Vestas V150-4.2 MW turbines delivered in 4.3 MW operating mode, is expected to be fully operational by the end of next year. Pattern's Phoenix Solar Facility in Texas Now Online (Ind. Report)

Pattern Energy Group LP reports it has begun operations at its 83-MWac Phoenix Solar Project near Richardson, in Fannin County, Texas. The facility generates sufficient energy for roughly 20,000 homes utilizing First Solar Series 6 modules and NEXTracker NX Horizon trackers. Mortenson Construction provided engineering and construction services for the project. Phoenix Solar has a 65 MWac, 12-year power purchase agreement with Digital Realty.

The Phoenix Solar facility brings Pattern Energy's operating platform in Texas to 1,037 MW of clean power in operation at six facilities across the state. Pattern Energy recently repowered its Gulf Wind Facility in Kenedy County with new turbines featuring state-of-the-art technology. Pattern Energy Western Spirit Wind Nears Completion (Ind. Report)

Pattern Energy Group LP reports it is nearing completion of it Western Spirit wind project in east central New Mexico. When fully operational the coming December the project will constitute the largest single-phase renewable energy build-out in U.S. history, according to the company.

The Western Spirit project includes four wind farms totaling 1,050 MW of joint generating capacity and a new, 155-mile transmission line to California markets. Western Spirit farms will be twice the size of Xcel Energy's 522-MW Sagamore Wind Farm in Roosevelt County, the state's largest wind facility when it came online in December, 2020. Xcel Energy Launches 240-Turbine N.M. Wind Project (Ind. Report)

Minneapolis-based Xcel Energy reports the largest single wind power farm in New Mexico -- the 240-turbine Sagamore Wind Project south of Portales -- well come online before the end of December when it well generate sufficient power for roughly 195,000 homes.

The Sagamore wind project joins the three-facility, 544-MW Pattern Energy Broadview/Grady stations north of Clovis that collectively make up the largest wind power station in the state.

Pattern Energy Acquires Clines Corners Wind Development (M&A)

Pattern Energy Group LP reports the completion of its acquisition of the 1,000 MW Clines Corners wind power development opportunity in Torrance and Guadalupe Counties, New Mexico, from Orion Wind Power Resources, LLC.

Orion Wind Power Resources is a joint venture between Oakland, California-based Orion Renewable Energy Group LLC and MAP® Energy.

With this acquisition, Pattern Energy now has more than 4,000 MW of New Mexico wind in development, representing more than $8 billion of planned investments. Pattern Energy presently hold 28 renewable energy plants, predominantly wind farms totaling 4.4 GW in North America. The company also has solar plants and onshore wind operations in Japan as well as a 112-MW offshore wind project under development. Canada Pension Plan Snares Pattern Energy (M&A, Ind. Report)

San Francisco-based wind energy developer Pattern Energy reports it has agreed to be taken private by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB)

at $26.75 per share, valuing the company at around $2.6 billion, or $6.1 billion including its debt. The deal is expected to close in Q2, 2020, subject but remains subject to shareholder approval.

Pattern was launched on the public markets six years ago as a "yieldco" focused on the low-risk business of operating wind farms. Pattern Acquiring Two Wind Power Facilities fo $293Mn (M&A)

Pattern Energy Group reports it will acquire ownership interests in the Henvey Inlet Wind facility in Ontario and the Grady Wind facility in New Mexico for a total of $293 million. To that end, Pattern notes it has inked an agreement for a $260-million private placement of perpetual preferred stock with certain institutional investors and intends to use a portion of the net proceeds to finance the two acquisitions.

Albuquerque, New Mexico-headquartered PNM Resources reports the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority has given the nod to its purchase of the 800 MW Western Spirit renewable power transmission project which expected to be completed in 2021 from an affiliate of Pattern Energy Group 2 LP (Pattern Development). The $285 million transaction has also been cleared by the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). SGRE to Service Pattern's 218MW Texas Wind Farm (Ind. Report)

San Francisco-headquartered Pattern Energy Group reports it has awarded a four-year operation and maintenance (O&M) agreement to Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) for its 218MW Panhandle Wind 1 facility is in Carson County. The wind farm incorporates 118, 1.85MW-87MW GE wind turbines.

Under the agreement, SGRE will service the turbines and implement value-added analytics such as NEM Solutions and SCADA Diagnostics, later this year.

Since 2010, SGRE has been maintaining wind turbines of other manufacturers. In the US, the company currently has more than 10,000 wind turbines in operation totaling nearly 20GW.
