Ocean Power Tech Deploys North Sea Wave Energy Buoy (Int'l.)

Pennington, New Jersey-headquartered wave energy developer Ocean Power Technologies is reporting the deployment of a PB3 PowerBuoy wave energy device at UK oil and gas exploration and production company Premier Oil's Huntington field in the North Sea. The "trial" installation is on a nine-month lease agreement with a purchase option.

Ocean Renewable Power Seeking Tidal Power Investors (Ind. Report)

In Maine, Portland-based alternative energy startup Ocean Renewable Power Co. reports it is seeking a tide of investment capital to advance its unique RivGen -- in stream -- and TidGen -- tidal -- marine power turbines.

The company is seeking $12 million in private investment in addition to a recent $6 million infusion. An initial funding round will be followed by a push for another $18 million earmarked for production startup, commercialization and marketing.

In 2017, marine energy reportedly attracted only $200 million in investments worldwide; solar energy drew $161 billion and wind attracted $107 billion, according to Bloomberg's 2018 New Energy Finance investment report. Aussie Tidal Energy Project Sets Power Production Record (Int'l)

In the Land Down Under, tidal energy specialist Atlantis Resources is reporting a world record 700MWh--2GWh production output for a tidal stream power station from its facility in Scotland's Pentland Firth.

The Meygen project incorporates multiple machines and is the largest tidal stream energy project in the world. The project's 4, 1.5MW turbines generate sufficient power for about 2,000 homes.
