Rabbitbrush Solar+Storage Farm Construction Underway (Ind. Report)

Dallas-based Leeward Renewable Energy is reporting work has begun on the 100-MW / 50MWh storage Rabbitbrush Solar farm near Rosamond, Kern County, California. When fully operational this coming August, Rabbitbrush Solar is expected to generate sufficient power for 40,000 homes per year, displacing 48,000 metric tpy of COs -- roughly equivalent of taking 10,500 gasoline-driven cars off the road. Central Coast Community Energy and Silicon Valley Clean Energy have inked 15-year PPAs for the project's power production.

Leeward reports having 21 renewable energy facilities totaling 2,000 MW in nine states and more than 100 new wind, solar and energy storage projects offering 17 gigawatts of power in the pipeline. The projects will be owned by Canadian pension fund giant OMERS Infrastructure. OMERS Acquiring 19.4 pct Stake in Azure Power (M&A, Int'l.)

Toronto-headquartered OMERS Infrastructure is reporting it will acquire a 19.4 pct stake in New Delhi-based independent Indian solar power producer Azure Power Global Ltd. from International Finance Corporation and IFC GIF Investment Company for $219 million. The transaction is expected to close early this month.

Founded in 2008, Azure Power has 2 GW of operational capacity and 5 GW of capacity under construction or awarded.

Leeward Closes Financing for Aragonne Wind Projects (Ind. Report)

Dallas-headquartered Leeward Renewable Energy, LLC reports it has closed on $262 million construction financing and secured tax equity commitments for the repowering of Leeward’s 90 MW Aragonne Wind project (Aragonne Repower) and the construction of the new 145 MW Aragonne Mesa Wind project. Construction of the Aragonne Repower and Aragonne Mesa projects in Guadalupe County, New Mexico, are underway and expected to be completed by this December.

Under a previously announced 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service Company (APS), the GE wind turbine equipped projects will provide a combined 200 MW of wind power to APS.

Leeward Renewable Energy owns and operates a portfolio of 21 renewable energy facilities across nine states totaling approximately 2,000 MW of generating capacity.
