In the Nethlands, McDonald's restaurants reports it is partnering with renewable diesel specialist Neste Corp. to recycle used cooking oil from 252 Dutch McDonald's outlets into a low carbon biofuel.

"The used cooking oil from McDonald's is an excellent raw material for our Neste MY Renewable Diesel. The fuel is a renewable low-emission alternative to fossil diesel and requires no modifications to existing diesel-powered engines," according to Neste VP Carl Nyberg. The deal is subject customary closing conditions and regulatory approval.

Neste Takes Stake in Renewable Hydrogen Specialist (Int'l, M&A)

Espoo, Finland-headquartered renewable diesel specialist Neste Corp. is reporting acquisition of a minority stake in Dresden, Germany-based Sunfire -- developer of a patented high-temperature electrolysis technology for the production of renewable hydrogen.

Sunfire's Power-to-X platform enables the production of emission-free renewable hydrogen and conversion of CO2 into fuels, chemicals and materials.

In addition to Neste's equity investment in Sunfire, both companies will work together to demonstrate the production of renewable hydrogen at Neste's refinery with Sunfire's high-temperature electrolyzer.

Neste Introduces IMO 2020 Compliant Maritime Fuel (Int'l Report)

Helsinki-headquartered Neste, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel fuel reports it will introduce Neste Marine 0.5 , a new fuel before the year end.

The new fuel will help maritime shippers comply with the International Maritime Organization's 2020 sulfur cap of 0.5 pct to reduce sulfur dioxide emissions, effective 1 Jan, 2020. Neste Marine 0.5, which is manufactured at the company's refinery in Porvoo, Finland, will be available at yet to be announced locations in Northwest Europe.

In other Neste news, the company announced it is partnering with Valdosta, Georgia-based McCall Companies to distribute its branded Neste MY Renewable Diesel in Oregon, which implemented clean fuels standards in 2016. Helsinki-headquartered Neste, the world's largest producer of renewable diesel fuel reports it is joining Air BP, a leading aviation fuel products and services supplier, to develop a robust supply chain for aviation biofuels in Sweden.

"Sweden is becoming a leading country in decarbonizing aviation with its proposal to introduce a greenhouse gas reduction mandate for aviation fuel sold in Sweden. Together with Air BP we are able to support air transport in Sweden in their efforts, and this collaboration gives both of us valuable insight into developing similar supply chains to decarbonize aviation in other markets," according to Neste President and CEO Peter Vanacker.

Air BP is the specialised aviation division of BP. Air BP services are available at over 1000 airport locations in 70 countries and serves airlines, commercial aviation and general aviation.

Finnish Airports Switching to Neste MY Renewable Diesel (Int'l)

In Helsinki, Finland's national airline, Finavia, reports it will use Neste MY Renewable Diesel in vehicles at Rovaniemi, Kuusamo, Ivalo and Kittila airports in Finland. The switch to Neste renewable fuel is part of Finavia's commitment to airport carbon neutrality by 2020.

Neste's renewable diesel is currently available from 13 light traffic and 13 heavy traffic filling stations in southern Finland, Jyvaskyla and Seinsjoki. Billionth Gallon of Neste MY Renewable Diesel Sold (Ind. Report)

In the Lone Star State, Houston-headquartered Neste U.S., Inc. is reporting the sale of its 1 billionth gallon of Neste MY Renewable Diesel sold in North America, effectively helping reduce more than 7 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the atmosphere. This is the equivalent of removing 1.6 million passenger vehicles from the road for one year, according to Neste.

Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a low-carbon diesel produced from 100 pct renewable and sustainable raw materials, such as waste animal and fish fat, vegetable oils and used cooking oil. It emits up to 80 percent less carbon when compared to petroleum diesel. Unlike biodiesel, Neste MY Renewable Diesel is a drop-in fuel that requires no blending and is compatible with all diesel engines. Neste Renewable Diesel Cut 8.3 Mn Tons of CO2 in 2017 (Ind. Report)

According to a Helsinki-headquartered Neste release, replacing fossil fuels with Neste's renewable fuels reduced global climate emissions altogether by 8.3 million metric tons or 8.3 billion KG in 2017 -- equivalent to removing 3 million passenger cars from the roads for a full year.

The emission reduction is calculated by comparing the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of the renewable fuels that Neste produces in a year to the life cycle emissions of the equivalent amount of conventional diesel. Neste MY Renewable Diesel is refined from waste and residue raw materials, such as meat processing wastes, used cooking oils, and residues from vegetable oil processing, Neste MY Renewable Diesel provides up to 80 pct reduction in carbon emissions as well as improving local air quality by reducing exhaust emissions, nitrogen oxides, particulates, and carbon monoxide, according to the Neste release. Neste Touts Neste MY Renewable Diesel for Cutting GHG EMissions (Ind. Report)

According to Helsinki-headquartered renewable fuels specialist maker Neste, replacing fossil fuels with Neste's renewable fuels reduced global climate emissions altogether by a staggering 8.3 million metric tons or 8.3 billion kilograms in 2017 -- the equivalent to removing 3 million passenger cars from the roads for a full year.

The amount of greenhouse gas emissions saved with Neste's renewable fuels, primarily Neste MY Renewable Diesel, increased by 1.6 million tons from 2016 thanks to increased production at Neste's renewable fuels refineries in Finland, the Netherlands, and Singapore.

Refined from waste and residue raw materials, such as meat processing wastes, used cooking oils, and residues from vegetable oil processing, Neste MY Renewable Diesel provides up to 80 percent reduction in carbon emissions. Waste and residues account for the vast majority of Neste's renewable raw material usage. In addition to significantly reducing global climate emissions, replacing conventional diesel with Neste MY Renewable Diesel can improve local air quality by reducing local exhaust emissions, nitrogen oxides, particulates, and carbon monoxide. WestCAT Transitions Fleet to Neste Renewable Diesel (Ind. Report)

In the Golden State, Neste is reporting the Western Contra Costa Transit Authority (WestCAT) has switched their entire fleet of 45 heavy duty buses from operating on petroleum diesel to using only Neste MY Renewable Diesel™ a low-carbon drop-in fuel produced from 100 pct renewable and sustainable raw materials.

According to Neste, the renewable diesel cuts greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80 pct and significantly reduces engine-out emissions, all while enhancing fleet performance.

WestCAT, which operates a network of 14 fixed routes carrying more than 1.3 million passengers annually in the San Francisco Bay area, reports dramatically cleaner operation of their bus engines and reduced maintenance for the emissions equipment and internal engine components since the switch to Neste MY Renewable Diesel™.
