JERA, Partners Plan 2-GW Floating Offshore Wind JV (Int'l.)

Japanese utility JERA reports it has partnered with France's Ademe Investissement and Ideol SA to develop at least 2 GW of global floating offshore wind projects over the next five years.

The three firms will finance the development phase of several floating offshore wind projects all of which will be based on Ideol's high-local-content technology

"JERA combines the strengths of the Tokyo Electric Power Group and the Chubu Electric Power Group, JERA can fulfill the public interest of providing internationally competitive energy to Japan while ensuring a strong position on the increasingly competitive international energy market," according to its website. Renewables Power Half of Australian Grid (Int'l. Report)

In the Land Down Under, the Melbourne-based National Energy Market (NEM) is reporting renewable energy last week generated slightly more than 50 pct of Australia's electric power It was the first time the country's renewables have reached half of all power generated in the Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania market.

Solar power generated 32.5 pct, wind power followed with 15.7 pct and hydro with 1.9 pct, although the not running at full capacity. Experts believe the breakthrough heralds a future where these numbers will become an increasingly common occurrence.
