Maxeon Solar Taps Reenpro as Baltic Region Distributor (Int'l.)

Singapore-based solar energy innovator Maxeon Solar Technologies, Ltd. reports the selection of Reenpro asthe company's first distributor in Lithuania and Latvia. Reenpro will sell Maxeon's SunPower-branded modules, including the new AC modules, to residential and commercial installers in the Baltic region.

"For their distributed generation (DG) projects, Reenpro utilizes Maxeon's solar panels that are engineered with innovative materials and designed to meet any customer's energy needs. Maxeon's solar solutions ensure high efficiency, enhanced reliability, and superior energy production, including better shade performance. Primergy NV Solar+Stoarge Project Using Maxeon Modules (Ind. Report)

Oakland, California-based Primergy Solar is reporting it will purchase Maxeon solar modules for its 1GW PV solar-plus-storage project in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Maxeon-supplied modules will be delivered over a four-quarter period starting in the second quarter of 2022, for project completion in by the end of 2023.

The Gemini project is expected to utilize as many as 1.8 million shingled bifacial Performance 5 UPP solar cells manufactured by Maxeon in Malaysia and module assembly completed by Maxeon in Mexicali, Mexico.

Maxeon Touts Adhesive Rooftop Solar Panels (New Prod. & Tech.)

Singapore-headquartered Maxeon Solar Technologies is touting its new Maxeon Air technology platform -- a frameless, thin, lightweight and conformable solar panel that can be time and cost effectively adhered directly to a roof without the need for racking or other mounting systems.

Maxeon Air panels will be featured in selected projects in Europe in the second half of 2021. The first installations will target roofs that are not engineered to support the weight of conventional solar systems. In Europe alone, there is an un-served annual market for low-load roofs of over 4 GW, the company estimates.

Maxeon IBC solar cell panel's factory integrated adhesive layer enable installation directly on a roof surface without metal frame racking, anchors or ballast. The cells incorporate a solid metal foundation and stress relieved cell interconnects that protect against corrosion and enables fault tolerant circuits that allow energy flow and have the unique ability to share current in reverse bias voltage while shaded, avoiding damaging or dangerous high temperatures.

Solar EV Startup Touts $48Mn Funding Round (Ind. Report)

In the Netherlands, solar electric vehicle startup Lightyear is reporting it largest funding roud to date -- $48 million led by Zero Point Holding B.V. -- which will be used to support their growth and path towards the first customer deliveries of the company's first electric vehicle called the Lightyear One by the end of this year.

Lightyear One uses 5 square meters of integrated solar cells in the vehicles roof and hood and an efficient powertrain, high yield solar roof and an optimized thermal management system. for electric vehicles. The cells function independently, meaning they produce a higher yield compared to conventional solar cells, according to Lightyear. The Lightyear One can drive up to 55km (34 miles) per day on solar power alone.

Lightyear teamed up with Silicon Valley-based company SunPower Corporation, integrating the company's Maxeon solar cells onto conductive back sheet technology developed by Dutch life sciences company DSM. SunPower is an energy company that designs and manufactures crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells and solar panels based technology invented at Stanford University in California. SunPower Shuttering Hillsboro, Oregon Plant (Ind. Report)

SunPower reports it will cease production at its SunPower Manufacturing Oregon solar panel plant in Hillsboro, Oregon by March 2021 and complete the wind-down of the facility in early June. The company is looking into the possible sale of the plant, exploring a joint venture option or assessing potential partnerships.

As previously reported, SunPower completed the spin-off of Maxeon Solar Technologies last August. The spin-off encompassed international panel manufacturing and associated sales, which is now run by Maxeon. Following the split, SunPower is focused on solar and battery storage system sales and services for customers in the U.S. and Canada, as well as developing downstream energy services products like energy management software.
