The fuel being tested has been developed by sustainable marine biofuels producer GoodFuels. The second-generation biofuel oil is completely derived from forest residues and waste oil products and, in addition to virtually eliminating SOx emissions, is expected to deliver 80-90 pct well-to-propeller CO2 reduction versus fossil equivalents without engine modifications.
The program aims to demonstrate the scalability, sustainability and technical compliance of sustainable marine biofuel oil, and thereby spur the wider continued development of realistic options to curb GHG and SOx emissions from shipping.
