Date: 2019-06-14
The government of Djibouti through the country's electricity utility Electricite de Djibouti (EDD) is reporting a framework agreement with French company Engie for construction of a 30 MW PV power plant in the Grand Bara region, south of Djibouti.

The project, which will be the first large-scale solar power plant in the country, is part of a much larger project -- the construction of a 300 MW solar complex.

Phase one of the project was initially awarded to Green Enesys, a Swiss company. The overall investment is expected to amount to US $406 million. The country aims to have 100 pct renewable and local energy by 2020.

Also in Djibouti, French firm Blue Shark Power is developing a 120-MW tidal power project. (Source: Construction Review. 13 June, 2019) Contact: EDD, www.edd.dj; Engie, www.engie.com/en; Greene Ensys, www.greenenesys.com; Blue Shark Power, www.bluesharkpower.eu
