A Net-Zero Project aims to convert renewable energy such as photosynthetic, wind, renewable natural gas (RNG), biogas, from various sources into energy dense liquid hydrocarbons that achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the fuel's whole lifecycle -- from the way carbon is captured from the atmosphere, and processed to make liquid transportation fuel products.
Net-Zero 1 to be constructed at Lake Preston, South Dakota is expected to have a capacity of 45 MMgy of hydrocarbons (for gasoline and jet fuel, based on current take-or-pay contracts) and to produce more than 350 million ppy per year of high protein feed products as well as produce sufficient renewable natural gas (RNG) to meet production process needs.
Net-Zero 1 is projected to come in at roughly $700 million including the hydrocarbon production and related renewable energy infrastructure which includes anaerobic digestion to produce biogas to run the plant and generate electricity on-site. (Source; GEVO, PR, 11 Jan., 2021.

Shockwave is financing the equipment required for this multi-million dollar project and is providing certain performance guarantees for the Shockwave Process. The Shockwave Process is expected to cut production costs and improve profitability at the Luverne Facility by increasing the number and value of feed and protein products, producing corn oil for food use, and helping to lower the facility's overall carbon footprint. The Shockwave Process is expected to be operational in Q1,2019.
Shockwave's Thermodynamic Corn Fractionation Process, is a front-end corn fractionation platform that uses high velocity air and pressure changes to fractionate solid materials, providing an innovative, low-cost approach to separating the corn kernel into the various fractions including a higher-starch feed for fermentation as well as germ and fiber (Source: GEVO, PR, 14 Aug., 2018)

While we are continuing to aggregate demand for isobutanol, jet fuel, and isooctane with a view to building out large capacity for those products, ethanol production is the key to driving profitability in the near term.
DSM full-scale application trials of eBOOST demonstrated that the solution increases ethanol yields up to 6 pct and reduces glycerol formation more effectively than other industry-standard yeast products, GEVO says.

Iniially, GEVO will supply Avfuel from its 70,000 gpy hydrocarbon processing facility in Silsbee, Texas. GEVO expects to construct a larger-scale hydrocarbon facility at its existing ethanol and isobutanol production facility located in Luverne, Minnesota, subject to financing. Upon completion of the Luverne Hydrocarbon Facility, GEVO would supply Avfuel with larger volumes of ATJ, ramping up to 1,000,000 gpy of unblended ATJ which, when blended with conventional jet fuel, would produce many millions of gallons of finished ASTM D1655 jet-fuel product. Avfuel services over 3,000 locations worldwide.
The Supply Agreement with Avfuel is GEVO's first long-term commercial supply agreement for its ATJ.
