Exide, Leclanche Report Indian Li-Ion Battery JV (Ind. Report)

Kolkata, India-based Exide Industries Limited and Switzerland-headquartered energy storage specialist Leclanche S.A. are reporting a lithium-ion cells, modules and battery pack manufacturing JV in the Indian state of Gujarat. The project is expected to be fully operational by Q2, 2019.

Exide is India's largest manufacturer of lead acid batteries and energy storage solutions. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), however, Exide will make an initial capital contribution of about $5.4 million for a 74.99 pct stake in the new facility. Mahindra Wins First Indian Solar-plus-Storage Contract (Int'l)

According to consultancy firm Bridge to India reports India's state-run coal mining and power firm NLC India has auctioned a 20MW solar PV project to be combined with 28MWh of energy storage capacity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Mahindra Susten . The $46 million (US) contract includes EPC and O&M services for 25 years.

Other project bidders included Adani, Sterling & Wilson, Ujaas, Exide, Hero and BHEL. India's Central Electricity Authority (CEA) is also currently debating how and whether to introduce a mandate for solar and wind projects above a certain size to be coupled with energy storage.
