Engie's Jumbo Hill Wind Project Construction Underway (Ind. Report)

According to a tax incentive document published by the Texas Comptroller's office, Houston-based Engie North America Inc. reports construction is underway on the $170 million Jumbo Hill Wind Project in Andrews County, Texas,

The 57-turbine project is expected to be completed and online in spring 2020 and will sell power and renewable credits to an unnamed corporate buyer. United Power Touts Colorado Battery Energy Storage (Ind. Report)

Brighton, Colorado-based electric power cooperative United Power reports it has partnered with Tesla and Houston-headquartered Engie North America for the installation of a 4MW/16MWh battery energy storage system in Firestone.

The Tesla battery system, reportedly be the largest lithium-ion battery storage project ever built in Colorado, will store sufficient power for power 600-700 homes and help United Power save approximately $1 million in annual operational costs. Bay State's Largest Energy Storage System Unveiled (Ind. Report)

ENGIE North America an municipally-owned Holyoke Gas & Electric Utility (HG&E) are reporting the launch of Massachusetts' largest utility-scale energy storage system at the Mt. Tom Solar Farm in Holyoke, Massachusetts. ENGIE Storage Services -- fka Green Charge LLC -- will operate the 3-megawatt GridSynergy(trade; system, which will be integrated into the largest community solar farm in the state at a location adjacent to the former Mt. Tom Power Station.

GridSynergy will provide grid stability by responding quickly to electricity demand fluctuations, allow for the increased use of clean energy, and reduce peak load burden on the existing electrical distribution system.

According to ENGIE North America, nearly 100 pct of its power generation portfolio is low carbon or carbon free. Globally, ENGIE is the largest independent power producer in the world, with operations in 70 countries and 1,000 researchers in 11 R&D centers. BU Reports ENGIE North America 15-year Wind PPA (Ind. Report)

Boston University reports that as part of its Climate Action Plan it will purchase 205,000 megawatt hours of wind power from Engie North America under the terms of a 15 year PPA beginning in 2020, from a South Dakota wind farm that will begin construction in the spring, 2019.

By purchasing power outside New England, BU will earn renewable energy certificates (RECs) against its own carbon emissions in Boston. BU's Climate Action Plan aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero on BU campuses and global operations by 2040. ENGIE Confirms Live Oak Wind Project Financing (Ind. Report)

ENGIE North America Inc. reports it has signed construction and tax equity financing as well as a power hedge for the Live Oak Wind Project near San Angelo, in west Texas.

The 200 MW Live Oak project is part of the Infinity Renewables portfolio recently acquired by ENGIE North America. Live Oak is scheduled to be online by the end of 2018.

ENGIE North America secured $147 million in construction financing and $155 million in tax equity financing for the project through Bank of America Merrill Lynch, with Rabobank providing a letter of credit. Engie NA Acquiring Solar Specialist SoCore Energy (M&A)

France's Engie SA subsidiary Engie North America reports it has inked a deal to acquire US commercial, industrial and distributed solar specialist SoCore Energy.

The transaction will add 150 MW of operating or shovel-ready solar assets along with 170 MW of projects in late-stage development to Engie NA's portfolio. ENGIE Snares Wind Developer Infinity Renewables (M&A)

ENGIE North America Inc. is reporting the acquisition of Santa Barbara, California-based utility-scale wind projects developer Infinity Renewables. The acquisition includes more than 8 GW of projects in various stages of development.

Infinity Renewables, along with its funding and development partner, MAP Renewable Energy, has developed and sold nearly a dozen projects totaling over 1.6 GW in commercial operation.

ENGIE reports it will retain and work with the Infinity staff, including its principals, who formed Infinity Renewables in 2008. Engie's 50-MW Texas Solar Park Now Online (Ind. Report)

In the Lone Star State, French energy group Engie SA reports that its 50-MW SolaireHolman solar power plant in Alpine, Texas, is now online and supplying electricity to the city of Houston under the terms of a 20-year PPA.

The SolaireHolman facility, which incorporates 203,840 solar panels, was developed and implemented jointly by two Engie subsidiaries -- Solairedirect North America and Houston-headquartered Engie North America. The facility will generate sufficient electric power to meet 10.5 pct of the city's electricity needs. ENGIE, Axium Ink $1.65Bn Energy Management Contract (Ind. Report)

ENGIE North America Inc. and Axium Infrastructure US are reporting receipt of a 50-year, $1.165 billion concession to address The Ohio State University's (OSU) energy sustainability goals for its 485-building campus in Columbus, Ohio.

Principle elements of the energy management project include:

  • Operation and optimization of OSU's utility system, including Energy Conservation Management Services leveraging the existing system and development of future capital improvement projects to improve the university's energy efficiency by 25 pct within 10 years.
  • Construction of a new Energy Advancement and Innovation Center for energy research and commercialization. The Center would create a living laboratory where faculty, students, alumni, entrepreneurs, industry experts, and ENGIE researchers can collaborate on next-generation technologies and services in smart energy systems, renewable energy, and green mobility. The Center will be ENGIE's first research facility in North America, with connectivity across ENGIE's worldwide research and industry network.
