HyNetherlands Green Hydrogen Scheme Planned (Int'l. Report)
Engie SA
Date: 2022-05-13
French multinational utility Engie SA, along with Europe's largest methanol produce OCI, and EEW is reporting their collaboration on the HyNetherlands (HyNL) project in Groningen province, the Netherlands. The project will produce e-methanol by combining hydrogen generated by offshore wind and biogenic carbon dioxide.

The project will initially incorporate a new 100MW electrolyser facility that will produce hydrogen for e-methanol production and deliver renewable-based hydrogen to the transpotation and industrial sectors. Electrolyser production capacity will be increased to 1.85GW in the early 2030s.

The Engie hydrogen production site will be located on the site of the Eems power plant in Eemshaven, with the electrolyser powered by 200MW of offshore wind. The EEW carbon capture plant will be integrated with the existing waste-to-energy plant in Farmsum and will capture biogenic CO2 from the flue gases of the plant's production lines.

OCI's BioMCN methanol facility in Farmsum has the capacity to combine hydrogen and biogenic CO2 to produce e-methanol. The Engie and OCI/BioMCN plants will be connected to the hydrogen network that Gasunie is developing in the Netherlands and Northern Germany. . POET Applauds Iowa Governor's Drive to E15 by 2025 (Ind. Report)
POET
Date: 2021-02-12
In Souix Falls, South Dakota, POET applauded Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds' proposed legislation to speed the statewide adoption of higher biofuel blends and make E15 the standard fuel option by 2025.

According to POET Founder and CEO Jeff Broin, "Iowa has always been a major champion for biofuels, and we applaud Governor Reynolds for taking that forward-thinking leadership to the next level with E15. Passing legislation for an E15 standard could lay the foundation for the entire nation. E15 in Iowa would add nearly 30 million bushels of grain demand each year, grow thousands of jobs across the state and inject millions into Iowa’s economy," Broin continued.

"It would boost farm incomes across the Midwest, grow dependable domestic markets, and be a critical step in securing America's energy independence. Make no mistake -- we need to return to our roots and once again get our energy from the surface of the Earth, and America's farmers will play a pivotal role in the climate solution. Federal and state leaders looking to take action on climate and clean air should start with plant-based biofuels like bioethanol, which is 46 pct cleaner than gasoline from farm to freeway and displaces toxic chemicals in gasoline linked to cancer and other serious health problems," Broin concluded. Climate Change and COVID-19 Notable Quote
Climate Change
Date: 2020-04-20
"We will be quite vigilant that companies do not use this (COVID-19 pandemic) to cancel or postpone some (climate change) commitments they have already made. What is happening now is what we could see with climate change  ...  with a lot of supply and demand falling." -- Sebastien Thevoux-Chabuel, Portfolio Manager, Comgest Asset Management, +33 (0)1 44 94 19 00 17, www.comgest.com

Comgest is one of eight major investment groups warning that tackling global warming must remain a priority for public companies, despite pressure on businesses globally after government measures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic left whole sectors unable to operate. The investment groups noted businesses would be given leeway when it came to climate change this year, but warned against backtracking on targets to reduce carbon emissions.
