French multinational utility Engie SA, along with Europe's largest methanol produce OCI, and EEW is reporting their collaboration on the HyNetherlands (HyNL) project in Groningen province, the Netherlands. The project will produce e-methanol by combining hydrogen generated by offshore wind and biogenic carbon dioxide.

The project will initially incorporate a new 100MW electrolyser facility that will produce hydrogen for e-methanol production and deliver renewable-based hydrogen to the transpotation and industrial sectors. Electrolyser production capacity will be increased to 1.85GW in the early 2030s.

The Engie hydrogen production site will be located on the site of the Eems power plant in Eemshaven, with the electrolyser powered by 200MW of offshore wind. The EEW carbon capture plant will be integrated with the existing waste-to-energy plant in Farmsum and will capture biogenic CO2 from the flue gases of the plant's production lines.

OCI's BioMCN methanol facility in Farmsum has the capacity to combine hydrogen and biogenic CO2 to produce e-methanol. Dallas-headquartered Leeward Renewable Energy, LLC is reporting the completion of the re-powering of its existing Aragonne Wind project and the construction of the new Aragonne Mesa Wind project, both in Guadalupe County, New Mexico.

Collectively, the projects are comprised of 86 advanced GE wind turbines capable of generating more than three times the amount of power produced by the legacy Aragonne Wind project while using 60 pct less land. Construction financing and tax equity commitments secured for the projects were provided by Wells Fargo and Santander.

Under a previously reported PPA, the projects will provide 200 MW of wind power generation over a 20-year period to Arizona Public Service Company. Dallas-based Leeward Renewable Energy is reporting work has begun on the 100-MW / 50MWh storage Rabbitbrush Solar farm near Rosamond, Kern County, California. When fully operational this coming August, Rabbitbrush Solar is expected to generate sufficient power for 40,000 homes per year, displacing 48,000 metric tpy of COs -- roughly equivalent of taking 10,500 gasoline-driven cars off the road. Central Coast Community Energy and Silicon Valley Clean Energy have inked 15-year PPAs for the project's power production.

Leeward reports having 21 renewable energy facilities totaling 2,000 MW in nine states and more than 100 new wind, solar and energy storage projects offering 17 gigawatts of power in the pipeline. SSE Renewables

SSE Renewables reports it will file a scoping report in the next few days for the 4.1 GW Berwick Bank "super project" incorporating as many as 307 of the world's tallest and most powerful wind turbines installed in the Firth of Forth roughly 40 km off the Fife and East Lothian coastlines in Scotland.

If constructed, the scheme would be the largest in the UK and could generate sufficient power for 5 million or more homes and save approximately 8 million tpy of CO2 emissions.

Toronto-headquartered OMERS Infrastructure is reporting it will acquire a 19.4 pct stake in New Delhi-based independent Indian solar power producer Azure Power Global Ltd. from International Finance Corporation and IFC GIF Investment Company for $219 million. The transaction is expected to close early this month.

Founded in 2008, Azure Power has 2 GW of operational capacity and 5 GW of capacity under construction or awarded.

Construction of the Aragonne Repower and Aragonne Mesa projects in Guadalupe County, New Mexico, are underway and expected to be completed by this December.

Following up on our 30 Dec, 2020 report, in the Garden State, Ocean Winds and steel fabricator EEW have broken ground for the EEW monopole wind tower manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County, New Jersey.

The state committed $250 million to the two-building facility that will manufacture monopiles to supply Orsetd and PSEG's 1,100 MW Ocean Wind farm off the coast of southern New Jersey. When fully operational, Ocean Wind will generate sufficient energy 500,000 New Jersey homes. The London-listed utility SSE Renewables is reporting a planned investment of as much as €6 billion through its Airtricity electricity and gas supply business to construct roughly 2,000 MW of offshore wind farms off Louth, Wicklow and in the Celtic Sea along the coast of Ireland -- subject to planning, regulatory and onshore grid connection approvals.

SSE Renewables plans to begin with a project on the Arklow Bank in the Irish Sea off Co Wicklow, where it could initially assemble enough turbines to produce about 520MW of electricity by 2025.

SSE presently has 28 onshore wind farms generating 720MW of electricity, as well as a gas-fired generator at Great Island, Co Wexford, and several smaller "peaking" plants used to back up renewable production. Leeward, which is owned by the province of Ontario, Canada pension fund OMERS said it would acquire about 10 gigawatts of projects being developed by Tempe, Arizona-headquartered First Solar. Many of the projects are slated for California and other parts of the U.S., with construction expected to begin within two years.

SSE Renewables and Equinor are reporting 15-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the first two phases of the Dogger Bank offshore wind farm they are developing off the coast of Britain. The Dogger Bank project is being constructed in three consecutive 1.2GW phases with first power generation expected in 2023.

Separate PPA's totaling 2.4 gigawatts of capacity for power from Dogger Bank A and B have been reached with Orsted, Shell Energy Europe Ltd, Danske Commodities and SSE's energy supply business, according to a joint SSE and Equinor statement. In the Lone Star State, Dallas-based Leeward Renewable Energy, LLC is reporting repowering of its Nolan County, Texas, Sweetwater 3 wind farm to increase the facility's capacity from 135 MW to roughly 146 MW. GE Renewable Energy supplied turbines for the repowering as well construction services and ongoing operations and maintenance services for the project.

The Sweetwater 3 repower replaced and enhanced major existing components of 90 legacy GE Renewable Energy wind turbines resulting in increased capacity, reliability and performance, and reduced operating cost. Sweetwater 3 will continue providing energy to its offtake partner, San Antonio-based CPS Energy, under its long-term PPA, according to the release.

In Oct., 2019, GE Renewable Energy contracted to supply 12MW Haliade-X turbines, but now reports it will supply 190 units of its enhanced 13MW Haliade-X units. Dominion Energy

In the Old Dominion State, Richmond-headquartered Dominion Energy is reporting turbine components and monopiles for its pilot Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) pilot project are en-route to North America.

The project's foundations, consisting of the turbines' monopiles, transition pieces and anode cages were fabricated by EEW SPC. Installation of the two 6-megawatt Siemens Gamesa turbines 27 miles offshore, is expected to begin later this spring for commissioning and startup by the end of the year. At peak production, the pilot project will power 3,000 homes.

Also this month, Dominion Energy is conducting ocean surveys to map the seabed of the 112,800-acre lease area where the company's 2,600-MW CVOW project will be built beginning in 2024. These surveys will support the development of the project's Construction and Operations Plan to be submitted to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) later this year.
