EDF Group reports it is acquiring UK battery energy storage startup Pivot Power on undisclosed terms. Pivot is developing 40 sites of 50MW storage capacity, each combined with rapid charging services for the road transport network.

EDF US Subsidiaries Rebranded Dalkia Energy Solutions (Ind. Report)

French multinational energy company EDF Group reports the re-branding of its US energy management businesses as part of efforts to strengthen its presence with commercial, industrial and institutional customers. The new brand -- Dalkia Energy Solutions -- is being launched via a subsidiary of EDF Group named Dalkia. Groom Energy Solutions and Aegis Energy Services, both US subsidiaries of EDF Group, will operate under the same banner.

Dalkia Energy Solutions will offer HVAC, LED lighting, cogeneration, building energy management systems and remote control services to enable customers in the distribution, health, hotel, housing and logistics sectors to reduce their energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

Dalkia Energy Solutions will also work with EDF Trading North America for wholesale and retail energy supply, EDF Renewables for large solar, wind power and energy storage installations. EDF Announces Hydrogen Fuel Subsidiary Hynamics B.V. (Int'l)

Paris-headquartered French energy supplier Electricite de France (EDF) is reporting the establishment of Hynamics B.V., a new subsidiary headquartered in Dongen, the Netherlands. The new company will develop a range of hydrogen solutions for industrial and mobility customers through ivestments in hydrogen production plants and infrastructure solutions such as filling stations for commercial vehicle fleets, and has identified around 40 target projects in Europe, according to a press release.

Hynamics plans to generate hydrogen through water electrolysis, which would reduce CO2 emissions to zero. The prerequisite for this is that the electricity used for production also comes from renewable sources, the releases motes. EDF to Develop 500MW Chinese Offshore Wind Projects (Int'l)

French energy giant EDF Group and Chinese utility China Energy Investment Corporation (CEI) are reporting an agreement under which EDF will develop two offshore wind projects totaling 500MW -- Dongtai 4 and 5 -- off the coast of Jiangsu province. The projects are expected to be commissioned in phases by 2021 and will be the EDF's first offshore projects in China.

EDF Group subsidiary EDF Renouvelables has 5.3GW of offshore wind either in operation or in development, and maintains 500MW of this capacity, according to EDF. (Source: EDF Group. CSP Ups Dubai's Renewables to 4 pct of Installed Capacity (Int'l)

In DUBAI, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is reported to have inaugurated the 200 MW first stage of the 800MW third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA) is implementing the third phase using the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model at Levelised Cost of Energy of 2.99 US cents per kWh using photovoltaic solar panels. The 3rd phase is being implemented in partnership with a consortium led by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and EDF Group. The second and third stages of this phase, which have a capacity of 300MW each, will be completed in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

DEWA CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer noted that the plant is the first in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region to use a single-axis solar tracking system, over 800,000 self-cleaning solar cells, and increases Dubai's renewable energy power production to 4 pct of total capacity. DEWA 300MW CSP Tender Planned for Early 2019 (Int'l. Report)

In the UAE, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reports it is planning to launch a 300MW tender for a concentrated solar power (CSP) plant with storage in Q1, 2019. The project will to be located at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park where the phased development is targeting 5GW of capacity by 2030.

A consortium led by Abu Dhabi's Masdar and France's EDF Group are expected to complete for the 2020 third phase of the project and have reportedly arranged $650 million in financing to that end. EDF Acquires Neart na Gaoithe Offshore Wind Farm (Int'l, M&A)

Renewable energy developer Mainstream Renewable Power is reporting the sale of its 450-MW Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm, located off the east coast of Scotland, to French electric utility EDF Group via EDF Renewables UK. The £1.8 billion ($2.44 billion) transaction followed a competitive bidding process.

The Neart na Gaoithe project is expected to generate sufficient electricity for around 375,000 homes and has an existing 15-year Contract for Difference with the UK Government and grid connection agreements already in place. A Contract for Difference is defined by the UK Government as "a private law contract between a low carbon electricity generator and a low carbon energy provider -- a power purchase agreement (PPA) -- designed to support the development of renewable energy projects.

EDF Announces Major Energy Storage Investments (Int'l Report)

EDF Group reports it is ramping up its efforts to develop electricity storage solutions and become the European leader in this field. A pioneer in this area, the Group is already involved in storage technology applications, including hydroelectric pumped energy storage and battery technologies.

During the period 2018-2035, EDF plans to invest €8 billion to develop 10GW of additional energy storage worldwide on top of its existing 5GW capacity. The company is also increasing its energy storage research and development capabilities with an investment of €70 million for the 2018-2020 period, according to a release.
