DEWA's Massive MBR Solar Park Advancing (Int'l. Report)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reports it has increased the production capacity of the first project of the fifth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (MBR) Solar Park from 300 MW to 330 MW.

The Solar Park's fifth phase will generate sufficient power for more than 270,000 residences in Dubai and will reduce carbon emissions by 1.18 million tpy. The Park is expected to be completed in 2023, according to DEWA.

In November 2019, DEWA announced the consortium led by ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation as the Preferred Bidder to build and operate the 900MW 5th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, using photovoltaic solar panels based on the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) model. To implement the project, DEWA established Shuaa Energy 3 in partnership with the consortium led by ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation. DEWA owns 60 pct of the company and the consortium owns the remaining 40 pct. DEWA Solar Park Testing Tesla Battery Energy Storage (Int'l.)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reports it is piloting a 1.21MW/8.61MWh energy storage system using Tesla lithium-ion batteries at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest renewable energy project, in Dubai. The project is DEWA's second battery pilot at Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park .

The pilot is intended to test how energy storage can be used to diversify the utility's energy mix at a time when calls for the decarbonisation of the energy sector are increasing. By using energy storage, utilities are able to expand their portfolio of renewables and thereby move away from fossil-fueled energy generation, the release notes. Dubai Solar Park Tesla Energy Storage Facility Online (Ind. Report)

In the UAE, he Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reports it has activated a 1.21 MW/8.61 MWh Tesla lithium-ion battery energy storage facility at its 5 GW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest solar project in the Middle East to date.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is expected to include concentrated solar power (CSP) units and hydrogen facilities when completed and fully online in 2030. Presently, the solar park has 1,013 MW of generation capacity in operation. DEWA Claims Sixth LEED Green Building Certification (Int'l.)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is reporting receipt of the 2021 USGBC Regional Leadership Award from the US Green Building Council (USGBC) -- its sixth green building with LEED ratings.

DEWA’s new headquarters under construction, is slated to be the tallest, largest, and smartest government Net Zero Energy building in the world when completed, according to past DEWA statements. DEWA Touts Solar Powered Green Hydrogen Project (Int'l. Report)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Siemens Energy are reporting inauguration of the Middle East's first industrial-scale, solar-powered green hydrogen project. Using power provided by the 1,013MW Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR), the pilot plant is expected to produce around 20.5kg of hydrogen per hour.

DEWA aims to use the project to demonstrate the production of green hydrogen from solar power, as well as the storage and re-electrification of hydrogen. The plant can accommodate future applications and test platforms for the different uses of hydrogen, including potential mobility and industrial uses.

Roughly 1,850MW of solar capacity is currently under construction at the MBR mega-project, which will reach 5GW when fully operational in 2030 and be the world's largest single-site solar plant. DEWA Touts Dubai Solar Park's Energy Storage Capacity (Int'l.)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is reporting the 950 MW fourth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will have the largest energy storage capacity in the world of 15 hours.

The concentrated solar cower (CSP) park features the world's tallest solar power tower and molten salt receiver (MSR) at 262.44 meters, the lowest levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) of $7.3 cents per kWh for the 700MW CSP and $2.4 cents per kWh for the 250MW photovoltaic solar panels.

The park incorporates three hybrid technologies to produce clean energy -- 600MW from a parabolic basin complex (three units of 200MW each), 100MW from a solar power tower (based on Molten Salt technology), and 250MW from photovoltaic solar panels. The facility will supply sufficient power for 320,000 residences and help cut 1.6 million tpy of carbon emissions when fully operational in Q3, 2121. DEWA, ACWA Ink 900MW MBR Solar Park Phase 5 PPA (Int'l. Report)

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is reporting a 25-year PPA with Riyadh, Saudi Arabia-based ACWA Power for 900MW Phase 5 of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park). A consortium of ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corp are the preferred bidder to build and operate Phase 5 of the solar park.

DEWA in partnership with the consortium led by ACWA Power and Gulf Investment Corporation had established Shuaa Energy 3, in which it owns 60%, and the consortium owns the remaining 40%. The project will use the solar photovoltaic (PV) bifacial technologies, which allows solar radiation to reach the front and back of the panels, with single-axis tracking to increase generation. The project is expected to be commissioned in stages from Q3 2021.

Touted to be the largest single-site strategic renewable energy project in the world, the 5,000 MW, $13.6 billion MBR Solar Park is based on the independent power producer (IPP) model. DEWA Claims $353.9Mn in Energy-Energy Efficiency Savings (Int'l.)

In the UAE, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has posted cumulative energy-energy efficiency savings of 2.2TWh of electricity and 7.8 billion gallons of water between 2009 and 2019 -- equivalent to $353.9 million in cost reductions, and 1.136 million tonnes of carbon emissions. The savings equate to an annual electricity consumption from approximately 327,000 apartments and annual water consumption of 250,000 apartments, DEWA stated on its website.

The savings are in line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 to provide 75 pct of Dubai's total power output from clean energy by 2050 and cutting emissions by 16 pct in 2021.
