WEC Energy Taking 90 pct Stake in Jayhawk Wind Farm (M&A)

Milwaukee-headquartered WEC Energy Group reports it has agreed to a $302 million acquisition of a 90 pct ownership stake in the 70-turbine, 190-MW Jayhawk Wind Farm, to be built in Bourbon and Crawford counties, Kansas -- subject to regulatory approvals.

Invenergy will take the remaining 10 pct ownership interest and will operate the facility which is being developed by Charlottesville, Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy. The project is expected to begin commercial operation before the year end.

WEC Energy Group, with $37 billion in assets, serves 4.6 million customers in Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota through its principal utilities: We Energies, Wisconsin Public Service, Peoples Gas, North Shore Gas, Michigan Gas Utilities, Minnesota Energy Resources and Upper Michigan Energy Resources. Another major subsidiary, We Power, designs, builds and owns electric generating plants. In addition, WEC Infrastructure LLC owns a growing fleet of renewable generation facilities in the Midwest. Apex Inks McDonald's Wind Power Purchase Agreement (Ind. Report)

Charlottesville, Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy is reporting a power purchase agreement with McDonald's Restaurants for 126 MW of energy from its Lincoln Land Wind project for a total 326 MW from two separate Apex projects. McDonald's previously committed to purchase 220 MW from an Apex project in Texas.

Apex Offloading Texas White Mesa Wind Project (M&A, Ind. Report)

Charlottesville, Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy is reporting the sale of its White Mesa Wind project in Crockett County, Texas, to an unnamed purchaser. The deal includes several power purchase agreements that Apex negotiated with corporate customers, according to a release.

Evergy Ventures Inks 660MW in Onshore Wind Deals (Ind. Report)

In the Show-Me State, Kansas City-based Evergy Ventures reports it will expand its wind energy portfolio by 660 MW to 4535 MW with four new supply contracts in Kansas and Oklahoma.

The new projects include: the 199MW Expedition Wind facility being developed by National Renewable Solutions in Marion County; AEP Renewables's 128MW Flat Ridge 3 plant near Kingman and Apex Clean Energy's 193MW Jayhawk development in Crawford and Bourbon Counties, Kansas. The fourth deal is for 178MW of wind energy from an unnamed project being developed by a subsidiary of NextEra Resources, south of Liberal in Oklahoma.

Evergy notes these projects are part of its commitment to achieve an 80 pct reduction in carbon dioxide emissions below 2005 levels from its fleet of power plants by 2050. Heritage Wind Plans 33-Turbine Barre NY Wind Farm (Ind. Report)

In the Empire State, Charlottesville, Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy's Heritage Wind unit is proposing a wind farm consisting of up to 33 wind turbines generating up to 184.8 megawatts of electricity in Barre.

The project would include wind turbines, access roads, electrical collection lines, substations, permanent meteorological towers, an operations and maintenance building, and construction staging areas. As part of the project's Article 10 process, a Preliminary Scoping Statement was filed on March 16, 2018 with the state siting board. OMPA Adding 40-MW of Wind to Power Mix (Ind. Report)

In the Sooner State, the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) is reporting the addition of 40 more megawatts of wind energy to its resource portfolio. The new wind generation is the product of a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Grant Plains Wind Farm in Grant County, Oklahoma.

The 2016-vintage, 64-turbine wind farm has an overall capacity of 147 megawatts and was constructed by Apex Clean Energy. OMPA, which supplies power to 42 Oklahoma communities, sources 26 pct of its overall power from renewables. GE Turbines Selected for Oklahoma, S.Dakota Projects (ind. Report)

ENGIE North America reports the selection of GE Renewable Energy to supply 180 onshore wind turbines for two projects -- 88 2-MW GE turbines for the King Plains wind projecting in Oklahoma, and 92 2-MW turbines for the first phase of the Triple H Wind farm in South Dakota.

The King Plains project dates back to 2015 and was originally developed by APEX Clean Energy. South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved the Triple H project this summer. IEA, Apex Clean Energy Plan 300 MW Kansas Wind Farm (Ind. Report)

NYC-based Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives (IEA) reports an agreement with Charlottesville, Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy for an approximate 300 MW wind farm project incorporating 139 Vestas turbines in Neosho County, Kansas.

IEA's work will include: wind turbine installation; public road maintenance; turbine access roads; MV collection system installation; and construction of a high-voltage project substation and transmission line connecting the project to the electrical grid.

IEA has assembled more than 7,200 wind turbines across North America, according to the release. ALLETE Snares 303MW Apex Clean Energy Wind Project (M&A)

ALLETE Clean Energy, a subsidiary of ALLETE, reports acquisition of the 303MW Diamond Spring wind project in Oklahoma from Charlottesville, Virginia-headquartered Apex Clean Energy.

With the acquisition, ALLETE Clean Energy will now build, own, operate and sell the wind power generated from the wind farm to two Fortune 500 companies under 15-year power sales agreements.

The purchase includes the two power sales agreements signed by Apex totaling up to 228MW and additional capacity to serve corporate and industrial markets.

ALLETE plans to break ground on the wind farm this year and expects to bring the facility which will generate sufficient energy for 114,000 households online in 2020. Apex Clean Energy Snares 442.5 MW of Va. Solar Projects (M&A)

In the Old Dominion State, Charlottesville-based wind and solar energy specialist Apex Clean Energy reports acquisition of 442.5 MW of solar projects across Virginia from Reston, Virginia-based renewable energy developer SolUnesco. With the acquisition, Apex's nationwide portfolio of advanced solar projects tops 3 GW, approximately 700 MW of that situated in the Commonwealth.

The SolUnesco transaction includes the 150 MW Carvers Creek, 150 MW Moody Creek, 130 MW Red Brick, and 12.5 MW Rivanna projects located across the Commonwealth. Together, the projects will generate sufficient electricity to power approximately 72,000 homes and would contribute over $11 million in state and local tax revenue, according to Apex. Apex Updates Lake Ontario, NY Area Wind Farm Plans (Ind. Report)

Virginia-based Apex Clean Energy has reported it plans to erect more than 40 wind turbines in Niagara and Orleans counties along an 12 mile strip near the shore of Lake Ontario.
