Taipei, Taiwan-headquartered Fluence Energy, Inc. a leading global provider of energy storage products and services, and digital applications for renewables and storage is reporting plans to partners with TECO Group to participate in Taiwan’s energy storage market by offering battery-based energy storage systems for offshore wind, solar PV and work together towards the goal of net-zero carbon emissions.

The two firms have been cooperating in Taiwan's energy storage market since 2020. Fluence was established in January 2018 as a joint venture between Siemens and The AES Corporation to bring innovation to modern power infrastructure. With a presence in 30 global markets, Fluence provides an ecosystem of offerings to drive the clean energy transition, including modular, scalable energy storage products, comprehensive service offerings, and the Fluence IQ Platform, which delivers AI-enabled digital applications for managing and optimizing renewables and storage from any provider.

In recent years, TECO Group has continued to actively deploy related fields of net zero carbon emissions, including offshore wind, solar PV, and energy storage systems. In the past three years, TECO has undertaken large-scale mechanical and electrical engineering cases of more than 10 billion TWDs, of which the deployment of onshore substations for offshore wind is about 2 GW. AES Launches Robot to Accelerate Solar Construction (Ind. Report)

Arlington, Virginia-based AES Corporation is reporting the launch of Atlas, a new first-of-its-kind solar installation robot. Atlas represents a major advance in solar energy technology, making it faster, more efficient and safer to construct new solar facilities. Atlas was designed by AES through a multi-year innovation process and built in cooperation with Calvary Robotics and other third parties.

The AI-enabled Atlas robot enables the rapid deployment of new solar resources at scale and automates the time and cost efficient construction of new solar resources. AES teams will use Atlas as a next generation tool in the construction of new solar projects. AES' other innovations and investments to "reimagine" solar energy include:

At launch, AES will offer Nest Renew through its US utilities, AES Indiana and AES Ohio.     JP Morgan and Morgan Stanley are lead underwriters in a syndicate of 16 banks. Proceeds will be used for debt reduction, working capital and other general corporate purposes.     AES Indiana Acquiring PetersburgSolar+Storage Project (M&A)

    In Indianapolis, AES Indiana, a subsidiary of The AES Corporation, is reporting plans to acquire and construct a 250 MW solar + 180MWh energy storage facility in Pike County, southwest of Indianapolis, Indiana, from a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC, which will develop and construct the project.

    Connected to AES Indiana's existing Petersburg Generating Station, the project will power the equivalent of 45,000 homes during peak hours.

    Subject to regulatory approvals, the project is expected to be operational no later than May 1, 2024. Last month, AES Indiana received approval from the IURC to acquire the Hardy Hills 195 MW solar project in Clinton County, Ind.     Siemens, Fluence to Construct German 100MW/200MWh BESS (Int'l.)

    Siemens Smart Infrastructure is reporting a letter of intent with Nordostbayern (Future Energy North-East Bayern) for construction of a turnkey 100MW / 200MWh large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in the town of Wunsiedel, northern Bavaria, Germany.

    Subject to financing, energy storage technology and services provider Fluence, which was formed in 2017 as a Siemens-AES Corporation JV, will provide the lithium-ion battery system. Siemens will handle project management including the building of medium-voltage switchgear equipment and facilitating connection to the local high-voltage grid.

    Siemens broke ground earlier this month on an 8.75MW green hydrogen electrolyser plant at the Town of Wunsiedel's local "energy park". The plant's proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser will be connected to a 6MW battery storage system that Siemens supplied and installed in 2017. The green hydrogen project is scheduled to go into operation in summer 2022, according to the release.     Salt Lake City-headquartered Independent power producer sPower reports it will merge with Arlington, Virginia-based AES Corporation to create a platform with a combined 12-GW renewables development pipeline.

    sPower's other owner -- Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) -- has agreed to the transaction which will see AES take a 75 pct stake in the combined business with AIMCo holding the remaining 25 pct.

    sPower owns and operates wind, solar and energy storage plants with a combined capacity of close to 2 GW. The platform that will be formed by the merger will manage the 2.5 GW of operating assets and the existing 2.6 GW contracted backlog, according to sPower.     ITOCHU Invests in Midwestern Renewables Power Plants (Ind. Report)

    Tokyo-based ITOCHU Corporation and Kansas-based Tyr Energy, Inc. are reporting an agreement to provide equity financing to Minnetota-based Aspenall Energies' Kimball Wind and South Fork Wind projects. The fully operational projects are located in Nebraska and Minnesota and have a combined nameplate capacity of 43 MW.

    The Projects consist of eighteen towers utilizing General Electric's 2 MW class onshore wind turbine platform. Commercial operation was achieved in December of 2016 for South Fork Wind and in June of 2018 for Kimball Wind. Together, the Projects produce enough electricity to power approximately 16,000 US households and have 20-year offtake agreements with Iowa-based Muscatine Power & Water and the Municipal Energy Agency of Nebraska, respectively.

    Six Flags West Coast Discovery Kingdom Goes Solar (Ind. Report)

    Six Flags Entertainment Corp. is reporting its Six Flags Discovery Kingdom theme park, in partnership with Salt Lake City-based sPower and Borrego Solar Systems, has switched to 80 pct solar power.

    The project includes a 7.5 megawatt solar carport rooftop solar array producing 11.9 million kWh of energy annually. The installation will offset 8,400 tpy of CO2 equivalents each year, which is the same as taking 1,800 cars off the road.
