Connected to AES Indiana's existing Petersburg Generating Station, the project will power the equivalent of 45,000 homes during peak hours.

Subject to financing, energy storage technology and services provider Fluence, which was formed in 2017 as a Siemens-AES Corporation JV, will provide the lithium-ion battery system. Siemens will handle project management including the building of medium-voltage switchgear equipment and facilitating connection to the local high-voltage grid.
Siemens broke ground earlier this month on an 8.75MW green hydrogen electrolyser plant at the Town of Wunsiedel's local "energy park". The plant's proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser will be connected to a 6MW battery storage system that Siemens supplied and installed in 2017. The green hydrogen project is scheduled to go into operation in summer 2022, according to the release. sPower's other owner -- Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) -- has agreed to the transaction which will see AES take a 75 pct stake in the combined business with AIMCo holding the remaining 25 pct.
sPower owns and operates wind, solar and energy storage plants with a combined capacity of close to 2 GW. The platform that will be formed by the merger will manage the 2.5 GW of operating assets and the existing 2.6 GW contracted backlog, according to sPower. The transaction is expected to close within months.

The Projects consist of eighteen towers utilizing General Electric's 2 MW class onshore wind turbine platform. Commercial operation was achieved in December of 2016 for South Fork Wind and in June of 2018 for Kimball Wind.
