Pune, India-based Praj Industries is reporting the inauguration of a demonstration plant that deploys innovative technology for the production of Compressed Biogas (CBG) at the Praj Matrix R&D campus. The demo plant deploys Praj's technology that uses a proprietary microbial consortium made from agricultural residue feedstock.

Also known as Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), CBG is part of Praj's Bio-Mobility™ portfolio which uses captive bio-based feedstock to produce carbon neutral transportation fuels.

Following up on our April, 2019 coverage, isobutanol producer GEVO Inc. and Pune, India-based Praj Industries Ltd are reporting a binding, definitive Master Framework Agreement (MFA) to collaborate on providing renewable, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable premium gasoline in India and neighboring countries.

Under their agreement, Gevo will license its technology to Praj which will provide technology, plant equipment and EPC services to sugar mills and ethanol plants to produce renewable isobutanol from sugar cane juice, cane molasses, sugar syrup as well as cellulosic biomass such as straws, bagasse, and others. Praj will also provide technology, plant equipment and EPC services to refineries for converting renewable isobutanol into SAF and premium gasoline through the ASTM-approved pathway of alcohol-to-jet fuel(ATJ). The agreement also allows Praj to carry out basic engineering and design package services, supply equipment, build plants and use jointly developed process design package to produce renewable isobutanol for plant operators who are licensed by Gevo. Further to our 9 Sept. coverage, on the sub-continent, Mumbai-based sugarcane ethanol producer Praj Industries reports its Houston-based subsidiary Praj Americas is laying the foundation for a $100 million sugar cane bagass-to-ethanol plant in Louisiana. The project, which could still be three years out, would be developed in partnership with Miami-based Omega Energy USA.

The plant would use locally source sugar cane waste as a feed stock. In 2018, Louisiana harvested about 16.9 million tons of sugar cane. On the sub-continent, Mumbai-based sugarcane ethanol producer Praj Industries reports it has reached an important milestone in the commercialisation of its 2G ethanol "enfinity" technology, following successful performance and due diligence by a US-based oil and gas major.

The company's proprietary "enfinity" technology will be used to produce ethanol and other co-products using sugarcane bagasse in the first bagasse-based biorefinery in the US. Miami-based Omega Energy USA will develop the biorefinery, while cane sugar producer Lasuca Sugar will supply bagasse feedstock. The proposed project will have a production capacity of 10-15 million gpy of cellulosic ethanol. Brazilian sugar-ethanol mill developer Dedini IndWstrias de Base is reporting a cooperation agreement with India's Praj Industries under which Praj will sell corn ethanol production equipment and technologies. technologies for corn-based biofuel. Details of the agreement have not been announced.

The Brazilian company added that the cooperation agreement is intended to take advantage of a growing demand for ethanol as a result of an upcoming national programme to boost biofuel use, known as RenovaBio, which is scheduled to start in January, 2020. The RenovaBio program will require 30 new ethanol plants in Brazil, the expansion of some existing plants and the rebooting of some previously shuttered facilities. Praj Considering EU 2nd Gen Ethanol Plants (Int’l) Following on our 1o May, coverage, Pune, India-based Praj Industries reports it is in advanced stage of discussions with several unidentified potential partners to establish second generation ethanol plants in two counties of the European Union.

According to Praj, its techno-socio-economic model of 2nd gen ethanol technology is already progressing in India and can be replicated in the developed region like Europe.

Praj Industries opened India's first integrated bio-refinery for renewable fuels and chemicals from agri-residue including rice and wheat straw, cotton stalk, bagasse, cane trash, corn cobs and stover, and other feedstocks in May, 2017. The second-generation bio-refinery demonstration plant boasts a 2nd generation ethanol production capacity of 1 million lpy.

The Indian governments is calling for a 20 pct ethanol blend ratio in auto fuels. To meet that goal, 10 to 12 second generation ethanol projects with an average 100,000 lpy capacity are expected to be developed.
