JV to Develop 12 U.S. Solar+Energy Storage Projects (Ind. Report)
TOTAL, 174 Power Global
TOTAL and wholly-owned Hanwha Group affiliate 174 Power Global, based in Irvine California, are reporting an agreement to form a 50/50 JV to develop 12 utility-scale solar and energy storage projects of 1.6GW cumulative capacity in the US.
The 12 projects -- located Texas, Nevada, Oregon, Wyoming and Virginia -- will be transferred from 174 Power's development pipeline. The first project began production in 2020, and the remainder will come on stream between 2022 and 2024.

ConEdison Announces First Battery Energy Storage Deal (Ind. Report)

New York utility Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc (Con Edison) -- one of the nation's largest investor-owned energy-delivery companies -- is reporting a deal with Irvine, California-headquartered Hanwha Group subsidiary solar project developer 174 Power Global Corp. to construct the first utility-owned battery in the state storing enough solar and wind energy to power 800 homes and businesses.
The facility along the East River in Ozone Park, Queens, will store sufficient green energy to power 16,000 customers for several hours, or the World Trade Center for a day.
According to ConEdison, "facilities like this one are necessary to help the state meet its goal of 70 pct renewable energy use by 2030." (Source: ConEdison, PR, 15 Dec., 2020)

Hanwha Q Cells Announces Major Floating Solar Power Plant (Int'l.)

Seoul-headquartered Hanwha Q Cells, South Korea's leading solar cell and module manufacturer, reports it will construct a 41-MW floating solar power plant in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, that will generate sufficient energy for roughly 60,000 people.
The project, which is expected to begin construction before the year end, will incorporate the company's Q.Peak Duo Poseidon modules specifically designed for floating solar farms and offering peak power of 420 watts and energy efficiency of 20.3 pct, according to the release.

174 Power Completes 180-MW Texas Solar Project (Ind. Report)
174 Power Global
Irvine, California-headquartered Hanwha Group subsidiary solar project developer 174 Power Global Corp, is reporting completion of its 180-MW Oberon solar power plant in West Texas. The 560,000 PV panel facility is expected to generate sufficient power for an average 30,000 homes per year.

Q Cells Invests in Aussie Energy Storage, Management Tech (Int'l.)
In the Land Down Under, Newcastle, New South Wales-based SwitchDin is reporting receipt of a $5 million investment from global solar giant Q-Cells. The investment will help further develop SwitchDin's DER energy management and storage technology while helping Q Cell move beyond rooftops to vertically integrated clean energy solutions.
SwitchDin gives energy companies -- network operators, electricity retailers and integrated utilities -- the tools they need to securely integrate and manage diverse mixes of small-scale distributed energy resources (DERs) to optimise system-wide outcomes for everyone.
The company works with players across the energy sector, with clients and partners that include not only utilities, but also equipment manufacturers, solar installers and energy end-users themselves, according to the company website.

Hanwha Q Cells Largest PV Cell Manufacturer in U.S. (Ind Report)
Following up on our 21 August, 2019 coversage, global energy consultancy group Wood Mackenzie is reporting Hanwha Solutions' Hanwha Q Cells became the largest manufacturer of residential and commercial solar cells in the U.S. in 2019 claiming 25.2 pct of the residential PV market and 13.3 pct in the commercial market.
The last time a company held the largest market share in both markets was 2013.

Hanwha Launches Residential Solar Battery Pkg (New Prod & Tech)

Solar cell manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells is reporting the Australian launch of Q.Home, a "fully wrapped" home solar and storage package.
The Q.Home combines solar panels, a hybrid inverter, and lithium-ion battery storage scalable from 4-12kWh up to 12kWh.
On average, the Q.Home system is expected to generate 355kWh more energy than the industry standard -- which equates to a surplus of 35.5kWh per year for 10 years.
The Q.Home's Home Energy Management System (HEMS) allows consumers to monitor and predict household usage patterns and solar energy production. The system

Big storage comes to Ireland
A 200 MW storage project is being developed by Hanwha Energy Corporation and Lumcloon Energy. The €300 million facility is intended to stabilize the grid to host more renewable energy capacity.
With that tweet, Ireland’s minister for communications, climate action and environment, Richard Bruton, welcomed the beginning of construction of a 200 MW storage project planned in County Offaly, in Leinster province in the east of Ireland.
The project consists of two 100 MW lithium-ion storage units near the municipalities of Ferbane and Shannonbridge, Irish broadcaster RTE revealed. The developer is Korea-based Hanwha Energy Corporation, the parent company of module maker Hanwha Q Cells, and Irish company Lumcloon Energy Limited is a partner on the project.
The storage facility is intended to secure power supply for the country’s future energy grid, which is expected to accommodate a rising share of renewable energy generation. Lumcloon Energy Limited announced the project with Hanwha in April 2018.
According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, Ireland had a pumped storage capacity of 292 MW at the end of last year. Its installed hydropower capacity stood at 529 MW while solar and wind had shares of 3,518 MW and 29 MW, respectively. Fossil fuels still meet around half of Ireland’s power demand. Hanwha Q Cells Top US Residential Solar Supplier in Q1 (Int'l.)

South Korean solar cell manufacturer Hanwha Q Cells Corp., a unit of conglomerate Hanwha Group, is reported to have been the leading U.S. residential solar power modules in Q1 of this year.
The company claimed a 27 pct share of the U.S. residential market, up 15.4 pct from the same period in 2019, according to global consultancy Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables.
