3D-Printed Concrete Wind Tower Project Touted (Ind. Report)

GE Renewable Energy, 3D printed construction specialist COBOD and cement giant LafargeHolcim are announcing a collaboration to co-develop processes for 3D-printed concrete wind town bases as well as produce a wind turbine prototype with a printed pedestal, a production ready printer and materials to scale up production.

Printing a variable height base directly on-site with 3D-printed concrete technology will enable the construction of towers up to 150-200 metres tall, according to the release.

For the project, GE Renewable Energy will provide expertise related to the design, manufacture and commercialisation of wind turbines, COBOD will focus on the robotics automation and 3D printing and LafargeHolcim will design the concrete material, its processing and application. Ocean Renewables Touted as Climate Change Solution (Ind. Report)

The attached report from the Ocean Renewable Energy Action Coalition's (OREAC) Ocean Panel has found that ocean-based renewable energy, such as offshore wind, floating solar, tidal and wave power, could meet nearly 10 pct of the global annual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions needed to remain on a Paris-compliant 1.5 degrees C pathway in 2050.

The report estimates that up to 85 pct of this decarbonization potential will come from offshore wind. 1,400 GW of offshore wind would power one-tenth of global electricity demand while saving over 3 billion tpy of CO2 -- equal to taking 800 million cars off the road.

OREAC is spearheaded by Orsted and Equinor, and includes other major players in the global offshore wind industry: CWind, Global Marine Group, JERA, MHI Vestas, MingYang Smart Energy, Mainstream Renewable Power, Shell, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, TenneT, and GE Renewable Energy. Additional partner organisations include Global Wind Energy Council, World Resources Institute, UN Global Compact, the Chinese Wind Energy Association and Ocean Energy Systems.

GE Supplying Turbines for Fina Enerji Turkish Wind Farms (Ind. Report)

GE Renewable Energy reports it will supply Fina Enerji with 52 of its 3 MW platform onshore wind turbines totaling 193 MW -- sufficient to power roughly 195,000 Turkish homes -- for four wind farms in Turkey. The 156 blades will be manufactured at GE’s LM Wind Power factory in Bergama, Izmir, Turkey. The sale includes a 15-years service agreement.

To date, GE has an installed base of 1.2 GW of wind energy in Turkey and has built 500 wind turbines in the country, including the 350 MW of onshore wind energy projects that Fina Enerji and GE Renewable Energy have built together. COVID-19 Causes N.D. Wind Blade Plant Shutdown (Ind. Report)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting the temporary shutdown of its LM Wind Power turbine blade manufacturing facility in Grand Forks, North Dakota after 110 individuals associated with the facility tested positive for the rampaging COVID-19 virus.

The GE factory, which makes rotor blades for wind turbines, will be closed for at least two weeks, and the governor has issued a stay-at-home order for all 900 workers regardless of their test results. The workers will be paid during the shutdown during which the plant will be disinfected, according to a release. GE Wins Phuong Mai Wind Power JSC Turbine Contract (Int'l Report)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting a contract with Hanoi, Vietnam-based Phuong Mai Wind Power JSC, to provide 11 2.4MW-116 turbines and technical advisory service for the Phuong Mai 1 wind farm in Binh Dinh province. Phuong Mai Wind Power JSC is a Special Purpose Vehicle entity jointly invested by Truong Thanh Development and Construction Investment and Hanoi Construction - Industrial Investment

LM Wind Power's Little Rock Blade Plant Getting Axed (Ind. Report)

GE Supplying Cypress Turbines for Finnish Onshore Project (Ind Report)

GE Renewable Energy reports it has been selected by Hamburg, Germany-based OX2 as the supplier for the 132 MW Metsalamminkangas wind farm in Finland, which will use 24 GE Cypress onshore wind turbines representing GE's first Cypress-equipped wind farm in Finland.

The deal, which includes a multi-year service contract, takes full advantage of the Cypress Platform's two-piece blade design provided by LM Wind Power, a GE Renewable Energy business. The turbines, which will be equipped with GE's Ice Mitigation System, are expected to be installed in Q2 2021 for commissioning and operation by the end of 2021. GE Supplying Turbines for Sweden's Blabergsliden Wind Farm (Int'l)

Masdar-led Consortium Launches $331Mn Serbian Wind Farm (Int'l)

A consortium led by Masdar, a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment, is reporting inauguration of the $331 million Cibuk 1, the largest utility-scale commercial wind project in Serbia and the Western Balkans. The project incorporates 57 GE Renewable Energy 2.75-125 onshore wind turbines totaling 158 MW -- sufficient power for roughly 113,000 homes.

Cibuk 1 was developed by Vetroelektrane Balkana (WEBG), a Serbian company which is wholly owned by Tesla Wind, a joint venture between Masdar (60 percent), the Taaleri SolarWind I fund, managed by Finnish renewable energy infrastructure fund manager and developer Taaleri Energia (30 pct), and German development finance institution Deutsche Investitions und Entwicklungsgesellschaft GmbH (10 pct).

The project supports Serbia's pledge to produce 27 pct of its domestic power needs from renewable energy sources by 2020, while helping to reduce its dependence on coal-fired power generation. GE Renewable Energy is reporting a PPA with Google under which it will sell the majority of the energy generated by the Bjorkvattnet Onshore wind farm 290 miles north of Stockholm, to Google beginning in late 2020. The power will supply Google's data centers in the region.

The Bjorkvattnet onshore wind farm has a generating capacity of 175 MW -- sufficient power 175,000 homes in Sweden.

The project was developed by Vindparken and WindSpace. GE Renewable Energy provided development support, offtake solutions, technical and commercial optimization and equity syndication expertise. GE Haliade-Xs Selected for Mammoth UK Offshore Wind Farm (Int'l.)

GE Renewable Energy reports receipt of a preferred supplier agreement to deliver as many as 300 of its Haliade-X turbines for the giant 3.6 GW Dogger Bank complex of three, 1.2GW wind farms being constructed off the UK by a developer consortium made up of Equinor and SSE.

The Dogger Bank order, which hinges on a final investment decision expected before the end of next year, would kick-off a £9 billion ($11 billion) capital investment by the developers. Once fully operational, Dogger Bank will supply sufficient power for more than 4.5 million homes -- 5 pct of the UK's estimated electric power generation. Construction is set to get underway early next year for power production in 2023. GE Cypress Onshore Wind Platform Chosen for Aussie Project (Int'l)

GE Renewable Energy reports it has been selected by investors Partners Group and CWP as the wind turbine supplier for the 244 MW Bango wind farm near Yass, New South Wales, Australia.

The project, which will incorporate 46 GE Cypress onshore wind platforms, is the company's first Cypress-equipped wind farm in Australia and the largest globally to date.

Construction is expected to get underway shortly for commissioning and start of operations by 2021. The Cypress is GE's most powerful and efficient wind turbine in operation. GE Touts 12Mw Haliade-X Offshore Wind Nacelle (New Prod & Tech)

From its production facility in Saint-Nazaire, France, GE Renewable Energy is reporting the unveiling of the first-ever nacelle for its mammoth 12Mw Haliade-X offshore wind turbine. The Haliade-X measures 260 meters in height and boasts a 220-meter rotor capable of generating enough clean electricity for 16,000 households. Blades for the turbine will measure 107 meters in length and help the turbine generate 67 GWh in gross annual energy.

The Halide-X will be shipped to Rotterdam for testing and final assembly.

The Saint-Nazaire production facility is also assembling a second nacelle for delivery to the UK's Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult site at Blyth for testing. A total of 49 3-MW onshore wind turbines totaling 158 MW will be installed in Izmir, Bilecik, Sakarya, and Istanbul. GE Plans Chinese Offshore Wind Manufacturing, R&D Centers (Int'l)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting it will open a new offshore wind manufacturing facility in Jieyang , Guangdong province as well as an Operation and Research and Development Center in the Chinese city of Guangzhou.

GE Supplying Turbines to 220 MW Polish Wind Project (Int'l Report)

GE Renewable Energy reports it will supply 81 onshore wind turbines along with a five-year service agreement to power the 220 MW Potegowo Wind Project in Northern Poland. This is the first project between GE Renewable Energy and Potegowo Mashav Sp Z OO. With a current installed base of 580 MW in Poland, GE Renewable Energy will increase its installed base to 800 MW in the country, once the project is commissioned.

The 81 turbines for the Polish project will be manufactured at GE Renewable Energy's facility in Salzbergen, Germany. GE will also provide a five-year Full Service Agreement (FSA) offering data-driven insights, expert recommendations, and advanced field services.

The Polish project, which is supported by the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), is expected to help save 480,000 tpy of carbon dioxide. GE 5.3MW Cyprus Wind Turbine Prototype Commissioned (Ind. Report)

GE Renewable Energy reports the commissioning of its onshore 5.3MW Cypress wind turbine platform prototype in Wieringermeer, Netherlands. The Cypress wind turbine, which was first unveiled in September 2017, is the company's largest onshore wind turbine to date.

Acording to GE, the new platform advances the technology of its 2MW and 3MW fleets while also using architecture and innovations from the 4.8-158 wind turbine, that was launched in 2017. The Cypress platform will be offered in different ratings and varying hub heights. The Cypress platform features a two-piece blade design which allows the blades to be manufactured at even longer lengths while improving logistics to provide more siting options. GE Renewable Energy is reporting details of a new IEC S-class, 5.3MW onshore turbine in conjunction with a previously unveiled 4.8MW model, on its "Cypress" platform. This 5.3MW iteration offers a doubly-fed induction generator and 50 pct increase in annual energy production over the company's 3MW platform, according to GE.

The new 5.3MW turbine incorporates a modular, two-piece blade that offers logistical cost savings and allows the use of longer blades for more convenient delivery to remote wind farm sites. GE Touts New Wind Turbine Inspection Tech (New Prod & Tech)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting details of its high-speed wind turbine blade inspection system that uses thermal imaging technology and wide band acoustic spectral analysis to detect wind blade fatigue cracks, defective repairs, faults and other problems.

The new ground-based system works on GE and non-GE turbines and requires about 15 minutes per blade to provide real time data analytics. To date, more than 1,500 turbines had been inspected with the technology. In the Netherlands, GE Renewable Energy and LM Wind Power are reporting plans to acquire and build on the WMC wind turbine blade test facility in Wieringerwerf.

The facility will provide rotor hub testing for new GE turbines while continuing to offer blade and other testing, digital tools, research and similar services.

The acquisition is slated to close within weeks, subject to certain conditions. LM Wind Power was acquired by GE in April 2017. AEP's $4.5Bn Wind Project Wins Another Approval (Ind. Report)

In the Buckeye State, Columbus-based utility American Electric Power (AEP) is reporting its proposed $4.5 billion Wind Catcher Energy Connection project has landed required approvals from Louisiana and Arkansas -- two of the four states it will ultimately serve. Texas and Oklahoma have not yet approved the proposed 2,000-MW wind farm to be constructed in Texas and in Cimaroon County on the Oklahoma panhandle.

The project would be developed by Chicago-based Invenergy LLC and will incorporate about 800 wind turbines supplied by GE Renewable Energy. Invenergy would sell the farm upon completion, expected in in 2020. AEP's Southwestern Electric Power Co. will own 70 pct of the project and Public Service Company of Oklahoma will hold the remaining 30 pct. Southwestern Electric Power Co. says the project will save customers $4 billion over its 25-year life, compared to what it would cost to buy the power on the open market, noting no fuel costs, tax credit benefits and cost-efficient delivery thanks to the dedicated power line. It serves 231,000 customers in Louisiana. AEP serves 5.4 million customers in 11 states. It has 33,000 megawatts of energy generation capacity, including 4,200 megawatts of solar energy as well as 224,000 miles of distribution lines. "Iowa may conjure up images of sweeping cornfields dotted with farms, but this Midwestern state has been at the forefront of wind energy technology since 1983, when it became the first state to enact a renewable-energy mandate, requiring local investor-owned utilities to use wind or solar sources for power generation. In 2017, Iowa generated 37 percent of its electricity from wind, the largest share nationwide.

"GE Renewable Energy will now add to the state's remarkable base of renewables by helping local utility Alliant Energy erect 190 turbines at two new sites -- Upland Prairie in the state's northwest corner and English Farms further southeast -- to contribute additional 470 megawatts to Iowa's renewables capacity, enough power to supply the equivalent of 180,000 American homes.

"Those two new projects will also propel GE Renewable Energy to break a record of its own: The business unit's onshore wind capacity in North America now exceeds 40 gigawatts. Its 25,000-plus turbines now have the capacity to power the equivalent of 11 million U.S. homes.

"Worldwide, the stats are even more impressive. GE Renewable Energy has more than 60,000 MW of onshore wind turbines installed across the globe -- enough to theoretically supply all of Indonesia.

GE Exceeds 40 GW North American Wind Capacity (Ind. Report)

GE Renewable Energy reports it would not only add 470 MW worth of new capacity in Iowa with the construction of the English Farms and Upland Prairie wind farms, but that the company had now installed over 40 GW worth of wind capacity in North America. The Upland Prairie wind farm is expected to be commissioned in late 2018 and early 2019, while the English Farms site is expected to be commissioned in early 2019.

GE Renewable Energy Announces Chilean Wind Power Project (Int'l)

GE Renewable Energy has announced its first wind energy deal in Chile. The project, with Arroyo Energy Compania de Energias Renovables Limitada, will see GE supply six 3.6 megawatt (MW) turbines. Each will have 137-meter rotors, amounting to 21.8 MW in total, and will be installed at sites in souther Chile.

"GE believes in Chile's energy sector as a motor for development and we are determined to use our state-of-the-art wind technology to harness the vast wind potential in the country," Vikas Anand, general manager for GE's Onshore Wind Business in the Americas, said in a statement Wednesday.

The Chilean government aims to have 60 pct or more of the county's electricity generated by renewable sources by 2035 , rising to 70 pct by 2050. The government also plans to cut the country's greenhouse gas emissions by at least 30 pct compared to 2007 levels by 2030. GE Renewable Energy Confirms First Jordanian Wind Project (Int'l)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting it will supply its latest generation of 3.6-137 wind turbines to Mass Energy Group Holding, a subsidiary of Mass Global, for installation at the 100 MW Mass Wind project in the Jordan. When fully operational by the end of 2019, the wind farm is expected to generate sufficient power for 150,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 233,800 metric tpy. The project is both GE Renewable Energy's and Mass Global's first project in Jordan.

The project supports the Kingdom of Jordan's commitment to meeting its Vision 2025 renewable energy targets to increase the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix to 11 pct and drive domestic energy production to 39 pct. GE Installs First of 66 Merkur Offshore Wind Turbines (Int'l)

GE Renewable Energy is reporting the installation of its first of 66 Haliade 150-6MW offshore wind turbine at the 396MW Merkur Offshore Windfarm in the German North Sea.

The turbine was pre-assembled and shipped from Merkur's logistics hub in Eemshaven, Netherlands. The project's remaining 65 nacelles, blades and tower pieces will also be assembled and shipped from Eemshaven.

Upon completion, the Merkur project will be among the largest offshore windfarms in Germany with a generation capacity of 1,750MWh annually -- sufficient power for approximately 500,000 homes. GE Renewable Energy reports it will supply 144 of its 2.5-116 turbines for the ENGIE owned Umburanas Wind Farm Complex in upstate Bahia, Brazil. GE Renewable Energy will also provide 10 years of Operations and Maintenance at the Umburanas Wind Farm. This 360MW wind installment will add to the 326.7MW under commissioning by GE Renewable Energy at the neighboring Campo Largo I wind farm, also owned by ENGIE.

The Campo Largo 1 site is currently under construction and will begin commercial operations in January 2019 when it will generate sufficient electric power for up to 600,000 inhabitants. Middle Eastern Renewables Could Require $30Bn Plus, says GE (Int'l)

General Electric (GE) reports it is expanding its renewable energy footprint in the Middle East where it currently has 2GW turbine capacity. The company expects a capital investment of $30 billion to $40 billion to meet its 2035 Middle Eastern renewable energy -- primarily wind and solar energy -- targets.

The company currently has around 2GW of renewables turbine capacity in the Pakistan and Middle Eastern markets, a wind blade manufacturing facility in Turkey, an agreement to develop a conventional 120MW sub-station in Egypt, and is eyeing other opportunities in the ongoing round of renewables and is working with developers bidding for the Saudi renewable energy projets. In its just released Q4 and full 2017 results, industrial behemoth General Electric (GE) notes its subsidiary renewable energy division GE Renewable Energy generated a total of $10.4 billion worth of orders and $10.3 billion of sales.

The company claimed 30 pct growth in its international onshore wind orders in 2017. GE Renewable Energy also secured the orders for the largest wind farm in the US, the 2 GW (gigawatt) Wind Catcher farm in Oklahoma, and the largest wind farm in Australia, the 453 MW Coopers Gap Wind Farm in North Queensland. In 2017, GE Renewable Energy also completed the $1.65 billion acquisition of wind blade manufacturer LM Wind Power. GE Renewable Energy is also now the first offshore wind supplier with projects in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Quinbrook Closes on $268Mn for Oklahoma Wind Farm (Ind. Report)

Houston-headquartered Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners Llc reports it has completed $268 million in financing for for the first phase of the 365MW Persimmon Wind Farm in Oklahoma.

Phase one includes construction and installation of of 73, 2.5MW and 7, 2.3MW GE wind turbines.

GE Energy Financial Services will provide $190 million in tax equity financing for the project and has served as a bookrunner, administrative agent and lender for $252 million of credit facilities.

Quinbrook recently acquired a 75 pct controlling interest in Persimmon and formed a joint venture with Elawan Wind -- formerly Gestamp Wind -- the initial developer of the project.

When fully operational, the Persimmon wind farm is expected to generate about 900,000MWh of power per year. Quinbrook and Elawan claim to have secured long-term PPAs with an investment grade counterparty to support the overall financing. The European Commission (EC) reports it has approved France's Mirova-Eurofideme 3 venture capital fund and US conglomerate General Electric's acquisition and joint control of Idesamgar SL and Idesamgar SL 1, which will encompass nine wind farm projects in Spain.

Mirova-Eurofideme 3 invests in renewable energies, sustainable equities and green bonds for institutional players. General Electric is a global company active in the investment market in the energy sector, and in the production and maintenance of hydroelectric, wind and solar power generators.

In approving the acquisition, the EC concluded that the proposed concentration did not raise competition concerns because of its limited impact on the market. Microsoft Adding 37 MW of Wind Energy to Irish Grid (Ind. Report)

In Dublin, Microsoft Corp. reports it is entering into a 15-year PPA with GE for purchase 100 percent of the wind energy from its new, 37-MW Tullahennel wind farm in County Kerry, Ireland. As part of the deal, Microsoft also signed an agreement with Dublin-based, Mitsubishi-controlled energy trading company ElectroRoute which will provide energy trading services to Microsoft.

This PPA builds on Microsoft's strategic partnership with GE, announced last year. The wind farm will integrate GE's Digital Wind Farm technology, which makes renewable energy outputs even more reliable. Microsoft is also acquiring an Irish energy supply license from GE. The supply license will benefit both Microsoft and the Irish power grid, as it allows the company the flexibility to easily grow and invest in renewable energy in Ireland over time. ElectroRoute will act as trading service provider for the supply company. Once operational, the new wind project will bring Microsoft's total global direct procurement in renewable energy projects to almost 600 MW.
