China's Renewable Energy Capacity Rapidly Rising (Int'l. Report)
China National Energy Administration
Date: 2020-08-03
In Beijing, China's National Energy Administration is reporting the country saw a robust growth in renewable energy capacity in the first half of 2020.

The Photovoltaic (PV) power generation increased 20 pct year on year to 127.8 billion kWh, while wind power rose 10.9 pct over the same period to 237.9 billion kWh in 2020. During this period, new PV installations amounted to 11.52 million kilowatts and new wind power installations totaled 6.32 million kilowatts.

By the end of 2020, renewable energy is projected to supply 1.9 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity -- 27 pct of China's total power production. (Source: China National Energy Administration, Xinhua, 2 Aug., 2020) Contact: China National Energy Administration ,

Date: 2020-03-11
According to the China National Energy Administration, in 2019 China's wind power generation capacity exceeded 400 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) for the first time, reaching 405.7 billion kwh, almost quadruple the amount produced by the Three Gorges Hydropower Station in the same year.

Meanwhile, China's photovoltaic power generation capacity reached 224.3 billion kwh, a year-on-year growth of 26.3 pct while China's PV products exports grew 29 pct to $20.78 billion for a year-on-year growth of 29 percent and the second highest in history. China to Exceed 210 GW Wind Power Target by 2020 (Int'l Report)
China Wind,China National Energy Administration
Date: 2018-08-03
In Beijing, China's National Energy Administration (NEA) previously announced switch from a Feed-in Tariff (FiT) scheme to a competitive auction mechanism aims to help the country surpass its targeted installation of more than 20 GW per year on average over the next 10 years.

While certain onshore and offshore projects will still be eligible for the FiT, most projects starting in 2019 will need to win at auction. This is all part of the NEA's effort to ensure that wind energy reaches grid parity by 2020.

China is expected to surpass its national cumulative wind power target of 210 GW and will install on average over 20 GW worth of new wind capacity each year. (Source: China National Energy Administration , CleanTechnica, 31 July, 2018) Contact: China National Energy Administration,

China Doubles 2017 Investments in Clean Energy (Ind. Report)
China National Energy Administration
Date: 2018-01-22
Bloomberg New Energy Finance is reporting China increased its clean energy spending in 2017 by 24 pct to a total of $132.6 billion -- $86.5 billion of which went to solar. BNEF estimates China installed a 53 gigawatts of PV capacity in 2017, almost a third more than originally projected. China's solar energy investments accounted for half the world's $160.8 billion total. Global solar investment grew 18 percent in 2017, accounting for 48 percent of total global clean energy investment. GTM Research estimates the country’s total installs just under that number, at 52 gigawatts.
