Vancouver-based algae technology specialist Solarvest Bioenergy Inc. is reporting closure of its second tranche of its previously announced financing. The offering raised gross proceeds from both tranches totaling $1,095,500 by way of the issuance of 5,477,500 units.

Reporting from Raleigh, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reports four projects have been awarded funding under the Bioenergy Research Initiative, including three related to pellets and one focused on swine lagoon sludge.
The grant recipients include:
North Carolina State University's Department of Forest Biomaterials -- $133,190;
North Carolina State University's Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department -- $144,711; Carolina Land and Lakes RC&D for "Pellets for Pullets" -- $151,900

ICM Announces Brazilian Ethanol Plant Supply Contract (Int'l)

Colwich, Kansas-headquartered agricultural and biofuels process technology provider ICM Inc. reports the inking of an agreement with Usimat Destilaria de Alcool Ltda (Usimat) to implement ICM's proprietary technologies at Usimat's plant in Campo de Julio, Mato Grasso (MT) in Brazil.
ICM will provide an ethanol process improvement package, and a distillation, dehydration and evaporation (DD&E) package system to improve the plant's overall efficiency and biomass usage.
Usimat will also deploy ICM's Selective Milling Technology (SMT) and Base Tricanter System (BTS) to improve ethanol and corn oil recovery yields while reducing enzymes and chemical usage. In total, the ICM technologies packages will increase ethanol, corn oil, and DDG yields, and provide operational efficiencies.
