Under the program, households that have a battery system installed by one of the four providers will have the battery subsidized at a rate of $825 per kW, up to a maximum of 30kW. The average battery system will attract a total subsidy in the order of $4,000.
To qualify for a grant, households must be installing a new battery system that is both grid connected and coupled with a solar power system. An average battery storage system installation coupled with an existing solar installation would cost $8,000 to $10,000 and would increase to a range of $13,000 to $18,000 when combined with solar panels.
To date, the storage initiative has delivered more than 1,200 residential battery installations.

Each of the new community's 46 townhouses is equipped with solar panels, batteries and energy efficiency components such as heat pump water heaters (HPWH) connected to a neighborhood microgrid. The microgrid-linked townhouse resources will be managed and optimized with a "grid-interactive control system" developed by the US DOE Oak Ridge National Laboratory, supported by the national Buildings Technology Office.
The "Smart Home" technology in each of the town houses was developed by Atlanta-based home builder Pulte Group Inc. in partnership with with Georgia Power. Thermostats, security systems, appliances and other features can be controlled via the Pulte controls suite and through phone app and voice activation. Since listing on the ASX in 2018, 1414 Degrees has signed up to a $3.2 million pilot project to install a GAS-TESS unit at an SA Water wastewater treatment plant in Glenelg, to store energy by burning gases produced in the treatment process and generate heat and electricity for the plant.

The facility, with a 1,200-MW high-voltage direct current converter and 400 MW of battery storage capacity, will serve as the "plug-in" between offshore wind turbines and the power grid from which local homes and buildings receive electricity. Between the 1,200 watts being converted onsite and the energy being stored, the facility's output would be "comparable" to a peak of 1,600 MW.
Anbaric estimates the project will come in at roughly $645 million.
Anbaric Development Partners creates new entities that transform old energy systems into more effective and resilient ones with an emphasis on clean energy. The company's financial partner is the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, a $189 billion public pension fund, according to the company website.

In 2015, the year before it was acquired by Tesla, SolarCity installed 870 MW of solar systems shrinking to 326 MW of installations in 2018 under Tesla's ownership.
Tesla acquired SolarCity in 2016 for $2.6 billion and planned to offer solar panels and home battery storage systems to consumers through its retail stores and online. In 2018, Tesla cut prices on its residential solar systems and its often touted solar roof tiles have not yet been produced on a commercial scale.

NIPSCO claims its recently completed analysis found its plan would save its 460,000 Indiana ratepayers and the state money over the long term.
In its Integrated Resource Plan, NIPSCO proposes closing its Wheatfield coal plant by 2023 and its coal unit in Michigan City by 2028. With the closures, the percentage of electric power generated by coal would decrease from 65 pct today to 15 pct in 2023 and zero by 2028.
NIPSCO proposes replacing the 1,800 MW of electric power generated by the two coal plants with a mixture of 1,500 mw of solar with battery backup, 150 mw of wind, 125 mw of reduced demand through efficiency and demand-side management programs, and 50 mw of electricity purchased from other utilities.
Although NIPSCO says its electric power shift will save ratepayers more than $4 billion in the long run, it has asked IURC to approve a 12 pct rate hike to pay for decommissioning its existing power plants and building the renewable capacity to replace it.
